How about one of those "Fight Club" scenarios where you ask the IT guy for permission to keep listening to XM online? When he says no, start beating the shit out of yourself and throwing yourself into furniture until he changes his mind.

That sucks, I'm expecting the same thing to happen to me one day.
I guess the only left to do is invest in a portable unit, or you could
just keep listening online anyways and wait and see if they actually do
anything about it.
Download mp3s or record on a myfi at night and be a day behind.

I worry about this too. I record the online feed at my desk with my minidisc and have my Pioneer in the car recording in the car. Listening after work is better anyway since I can fast forward through the commercials.

My office has no windows so I have the 50 ft. ANTENNÆ extention going up one floor and out to a window. I don't use it but I'm prepared for when they go VOIP.

Can they tell what you're listening to?

If you were using the 64k, I'd try to 32k. Maybe it'll drop you to 2nd place.

how long did you listen for per day? I listen pretty much 8hrs a day straight 5 days a week and Ive never had a problem.
I dont want to have to bring my MyFi to work, its not as clear.

That's a good idea Tenbats, but now he's being watched. I think that's about it.

Who do they think they are, telling you to use their internet for work related purposes? This is outrageous!

Is it against company policy that you are able to listen to radio online? I should think that as long as it is not taking away from any company resources you should be able to listen online as long as you would want to. It's not like the computer can't handle more then one task at a time.

Depending on what type of connection they have at the office, you can only download, so much at one time. So, he is taking company resources.

The network admin at my office came over to me one day and was like "What the hell are you doing on your computer!" He saw the bandwith usage, and all of these open connections from all of the web browsers I had open (ronfez.net, wackbag, etc). So, I did the responsible thing, and gave him XM Online log-in info, and gave him the virus and the iris.

The XM stream is atleast 32 kilobits (kb) per second, that's 1920kb/minute. This page is about 700kb, and you load each page only about once every few minutes. One stream puts a considerable load on the company's pipe (no homo)... imagine if 4 or 5 other people were listening to the XM stream at Rich's company... that'd be a huge load (no scat)
