Adult Swim Grabs Pee-wee

Cartoon Network's Adult Swim has obtained rights to all 45 half-hour episodes of Pee-wee's Playhouse, the late-1980s Saturday-morning series that starred Paul Reubens' juvenile alter ego and featured drop-ins by the likes of Phil Hartman (as Captain Carl), Laurence Fishburne (Cowboy Curtis), Law & Order's S. Epatha Merkerson (Reba the mail lady) and Natasha Lyonne (probably in a haze). "I'd say this was a dream come true," Reubens tells Reuters, "but I never dared to dream that Playhouse would join Adult Swim's amazing lineup of cool shows!"

It'll be cool to see some of those shows again. It's been so long.

But Reubens pretty much hated the show by the end. He taped seasons 4 and 5 together so he didn't have to bother having to come back for Season 5
I know someone who did one of the voices.

Adult Swim was also bragging that it was conceptualized by Andy Kaufman. I had never heard that before.

I saw a commercial for this last night after Family Guy and before Aqua Teen, I almost shit myself. This is a much better idea than Saved By The Bell.

Remember the ORIGINAL PeeWee HBO special? (the one with the Mr. Bungle short film) Taped before a live audience in a tiny theater.

It was released on VHS (I have it). A looong time ago, I heard that it was heading to DVD but, it never came out. I think the death of Phil Hartman may have stalled the release. Anyone know the status? I haven't heard anything in several years.

Andy Kaufman's Kid's show was to be called, "Andy's Funhouse." The entire incident is well documented in Bob Zmuda's book, "Andy Kaufman Revealed!"

We get the Sopranos and Entourage and selected HBO programs but, even THOSE aren't on the same time as US. We can be a week or a month or even a SEASON behind.

I rented a season one disc last year and the show was still funny. I used to watch it every week as a young lad.

He was good in BLOW and all that but, I think the world is ready for the return of the mighty PW Herman.

If he makes another movie, and then goes on SNL to promote it...I think I'd shit my pants.

shit BOBO that is interesting. Larry fishburn was on the show as was Phil hartman.

Has anyone been catching Pee-Wee's playhouse on adult swim now that it is on ? It is bringing back some good memories and my kids love it too.

The only problem is that they have cut out the song from the opening credits. Does anyone know why ?

Disappointing. It's a lot more kidsy than I remember it. It hasn't been doing great in the ratings either.

I"m loving it every night. Lawrence Fishburne with a jerrycurl mullet put me in awe.

He did the shit work, not the actual animating.

And they cut the song because they have time constraints. They do the same thing to their licensed anime and have mentioned it in interviews.

And I'm enjoying watching again, but the show gets better in the later seasons.
