I actually like him on the show, i think he brings a funny element to the show and I love it when ron has someone in studio to pick on because he is hysterical with that angle. Whenever I hear someone call to fire dave, i just remember before dave got there when it was just earl, and 35+ minutes of silence every show when ron or fez tried to talk to him

I am definitely no huge fan of Dave. But I also don't think it is super cool to call for his head on these here boards. He has basically become the New Harry. We can hate on him, we can make fun and call him out on his BS, but in the end we actually have a few laughs because of it. As much as it kills me to say it. It is true. Anytime I hear Fez go, "Lookout Dave here comes Ronnie! Dave's down! Ronnie's puttin' the boots to him!!" I have a little chuckle and all is well.  It is Dave's job to keep or not keep, and that is that. And even the worst Dave bit is better than hearing the phones blow out and ruin yet another great pyramid...  Besides, this is Team Ron & Fez right? Even when Chuck Knoblauch went crazy, I was still a Yankee fan.

I've come to like Dave. I started off thinking he should be off the show, but every time he's on I laugh for one reason or another.It's Ron's show and only he can decide if he is going to stop doing the Dave voice.Seriously though, it is kind of uncool to start a thread calling for the firing of someone. The fact that Dave really is a loose cannon and not a "character" is what makes him so interesting.  Think of his employment on the Ron and Fez show as a kind of retarded "My Fair Lady" - either he'll learn what is and isn't appropriate and gain a level of professionalism or he'll crash and burn like dozens of other former producers.  Speaking of which, was Rory Hamptons the only producer in the history of the Ron and Fez show that didn't generate tons of negative e-mails and hate?  Guys like Al Dukes and Billy Staples were incredibly polarizing but Rory seemed to enjoy the audience's favor more than anyone I can recollect.

Normally he gets invited in to ruin the show, but today annoyed me because Earl was in there, he said he was having a good time, brought up his love life, and Dave had to pop in with some info, taking the focus and enjoyment away from Earl.Don't fire him, just give him 60 days in the hole to make Earl not feel so bad about his 30 days way back in february

I've said it before, I shall say it again. The only reason Dave gets any support is that he is still, remarkable, on the show. If XM would spend a little more cash and give Ron a budget to get a real 3rd mic on the show Dave would disappear and never be heard from again. I feel very sorry for both Ron and Fez for having to try to put a show together working with a lifeless no talent like Dave. You get an unmistakable vibe that no one on the show likes Dave, they see him as an easy beat down target that can be used at the drop of a dime for show filler. Ever notice that when the shows really flowing Dave is nowhere to be heard?Dave is the equivalent of a 12th man on the Basketball team that is brought in when you are getting blown out by 20 points or up by 30 and want to make the crowd feel like there is a regular guy on the team, even though we all know he will never on his best day be in the same league with the big boys on there worst day. I would not be saddened if Dave opened a window at the studio and jumped out with one of Earl's e-mails in one hand, and Roberto in the other reading it in the hack voice. Hopefully it would make the air waves and that ridiculous laugh would be the last sounds we heard as it faded away followed by a splat, and then a pedestrian screaming, "Timothy Busfield has just killed himself!"

You know...it's really sad, because Ron and Fez are living in the real life version of..."If Retards Ruled The World".  I mean, the buddies are just trying to put on an entertaining show and you get someone like ESD who doesn't realize what kind of stress they're putting on the rest of the staff.  I swing back and forth about him.  I think he has something to offer...just not sure what.  The slap was probably the first bit that ESD actually finished!   It's a testament to Ron and Fez that they can stand the top of the comedy iceberg while ESD is melting it from the bottom....

did you listen to the show from two days ago yet? i am curious as to what you think and if you want to change your statement.

Dave takes it for the team. how "fun" would the show be if there wasnt a heal to take the abuse? I will not comment on the email thing yet because i will be listening to yesterdays show today. i will weigh in on that when i get home from work tonight. but from what i read it was either a bit or bad judgement which Dave took the beating for. either way, its over and wil make for good radio.

Dave's email invasion and the fall-out was the most entertaining part of the show for me. To put it another way, as the Dave email thing took shape, I began to disappear into the radio sounds.  The more intense and bizarre the story became, the less I was sitting in my living room doing anything.  I was purely listening.  In fact, I don't know what else happened during that segment - I was absolutely riveted and vibrating with interest and excitement.  During the Jimmy Smits thing I washed dishes.  I liked the segment, but it was just...you know a commute from point A to B.   My reaction and my feelings during the Dave segment - of interest and excitement - are shared by some and not others.  I'm not exactly sure what Dave haters feel when they listen to him.  I don't know if it makes them want to shut their radios off, or whether they too are disappearing into the radio sounds, but then are having a lot negative stuff.  Like it's painful for them for some reason.  I'm not saying my reaction is the right reaction.  I listened to the Patty orgasm bit on O&A and had trouble making it to the end - same kind of rivetted attention, but I was not happy...it was painful for me and I wanted to turn the show off.  But, at the same time, I don't want O&A to stop what they're doing cuz I can't handle it. As to the idea brought up about a lack of funds for a real third-mic...I don't know if I'd want a "real" third mic.  The energy of the show is very intimate and that's one of its appeals - if R&F wanted a comedian to sit in with them, I'm sure they could have a new one every day gratis.  But that's more of an O&A style thing - O&A is kind of like the Love Boat - they can set sail with a new Guest Star and it fits in perfectly with whatevers exciting and new.  But R&F is more like The Andy Griffith show - it's about the intricacies and frailties of the characters in a small town.  Dave is a great character in their small town. I thought it was hilarious and strange how ESD looking into Earl's email mirrored Mikey D's door rattling.  Also very interesting is how neither ESD or Mikey D can see the problem with what they did, nor took much responsibility for it.  Instead, they both stuck to their defense, Dave's "lace Irish" defense being that he cares about people and so is justified in his curiosity and Mikey D that he thought the "visit" needed to be done cause of Dave's attempted coup de band and inappropriate remarks about Lenay (which seems made up by Mikey D, but you never know with Dave). anyway...Friday...no show...good luck Fezzie (he was on FIRE yesterday!)

I'm going to voice my opinion on this one cause I've seen way too many ESD bashing posts.  I think he's funny and contributes something unique and quirky to the show that makes the boyz react in a hysterical way.  I think R&F know exactly what they are doing by bringing him on air and we should trust them cause they are comedy geniuses. By saying you don't like ESD's "character" you are kinda saying you don't like a bit on the R&F show.

holy crap this is retarded....although R&F do a great job at making their fans feel like they are friends with all of us, in the end IT IS STILL A FUCKING SHOW!!!  There is no vibe of anyone hating Dave....in fact, I gaurantee you Ron loves him.  He always needs a producer/intern to rip apart.  It has been a running theme on the show for years.  Al Dukes, Wonderboy, Harry, Glaubitz (actually he didn't rip him too much.....that kid was radio gold)....and now its Dave.  Who doesn't love to hear Ron tearing someone apart???he plays the audience like a fiddle.  His goal is to make us hate that person and love to hear him/her get ripped apart so there is zero sympathy when they do horrible shit to them (i.e. Wonder Boy with the X-3 challenge).  Hearing him break his own window was the single greatest segment of radio/tv/anything I have ever heard.  If we liked him, that would have never worked.  Right now Dave is the whipping boy, and he knew that would be his role when he took the job....it is a show people.  If Ron didn't think it was good radio, he would never be on the air.  He establishes who can get made fun of and who can't.  Earl doesn't get much because of his short fuse.  Ron never gets made fun of by ANYONE!  Yet it is ok for him to call Fez Balognia tits or something, when in reality he is fatter than Fez.  It is show...they are real people yes, but at the same time they are characters.  Everyone has a role.  If Dave wasn't the whipping boy someone else would be.  Dave is hateable, that is why he go the job.

Great observations and points. I agree with the third mic thing. I don't want
some other comedian in there trying to take attention away from Ron and Fez.
They are all we need, with Dave and Earl and Bronx Johnny chiming in on
occasion. It is perfect the way it is.

Please do not give East Side Dave any credit for being "funny" He's not funny in the actual comedically gifet sense of the word. I think a more fitting term for him is "radio gold" What he is is fodder for real funny guys, Ron and Fez. His mumbling and bumbling only enhances the great radio Ron and Fez put on. If you put ESD in a room to do standup with total strangers, they'd maul his ass.  Now I don't know how good or bad a job Dave does off-air, so he may be brilliant behind the scenes. However, whenever I hear him on the air, I hate his guts. Not for the stumbling and the inaccuracy of everything he's ever said with a mic in front of his face, but the ignorant arrogance. How many ties have you heard the guy say "okay" instead of "I was wrong." Could you stand a guy who is living in his own world where he makes up facts and blurts out things without thought?Still, I prefer a goofy piece of "radio gold" over an actual decent producer any day. Idiocy is entertaining, after all, and for all the good guys like Rory did for the show, someone like that isn't as memorable as East Side Dave.

I have only been listening to the show since they came to xm, but i think dave is a great character for the boys to riff off of, and riffing is what they are best at.That beng said, i think i'll go take a shower. I never would've thought my first post to this board would be defending ESD. I feel tainted!

i got to listen to yesterdays show today on the train. all i can say is that while Dave is wrong for reading other peoples mail, it did seam like he was put up to it for radio fodder. It was funny as hell. Dave keep it up, it is not easy being the heal and taking your lumps, literally but you do it and come back for more. good for you. your balls must be the size of elephants balls!

Of all the opinions expressed here, one thing makes me wonder.  When did you start listening?  If recently what  if anything do u have to compare it to? I dont know how to do polls, but it would be interesting with everyone who posted a thought here on ESD and his role etc, have been listening for awhile or are new to RNF via X/M Any Takers' like ESD  listener sincex/mlistenber since WJFKListener at WNEW post ONAlistener at ONA during golden dayslistener to rnf at wnew in overnightsFlorida listener  same for dont like Dave   intesting I believe

I finally got around to joining the board tonight...i've been reading the board off and on for a while now and listening to Ron and Fez since they came to XM.  I will admit that I hated dave when he first started on the show but I have grown to become somewhat of a fan.  I don't like him personally but I do find myself laughing more when he's on.  The only complaints I have about Dave:  not respecting peoples privacy (that shits not cool or funny on any level) and the fact that Fez stops talking a lot of the times Dave enters the studio.  All in all I'd rather hear daves crazy ideas than just another pants joke from fuckin harry.

Ronnie put Dave on ice just for a little bit to keep this kids ego in check, he doesn't want to loose Dave becasue on air Dave is super funny and the chemistry between Dave and Ron is superb radio.. In person from when I met him at the party Daves a pompous goober with a big inflated head who thinks he is the next Howard Stern and Conan O'Brien.When Fez croaks off with a massive heart attack Dave will take his spot.

some of you "super posters" need to wake the fuck up!! i've been cured of the r&f show ever since east side douche poped in... and NOOO i havent been listening the whole time! i quit like it was causing cancer, and  i have very strong feeling i'm not the only 1, dave really had/has no place on air,....with o&a getting what they rightly deserve, and upping the content of they're show, r&f  certainly haaaad to realize the dave way was the weak way...i hope! cause he is/was kindergarten level at best, definetly not a caliber talent that is/was gonna help r&f elevate their game to a national platform....soory MR. meatl deth and all daves other relatives/x roomates, .....maybe its the curse of the name DAVE...ala lee roth/douglas...maybe i'm wrong and its a little game to get people to listen again...but i'll friggin bail QUICK!! if e.s.douche pops back ......jus sayin' xoxoxo

oh yeah, if ya heard  o&a's show last tues./wed.,  the bit about danny or whoever  getting locked out of the office every now and then while the "sewing circle" sent e-mails to anthony, trying to make private plans, through the open e-mail -  just consider that.  when speculating how tough XM corporate is about people checking other peoples e-mails.........unlikley - for daves departure......... his poor performance over 3 months is more likley  the reason
