For those not listening or missing today's show, John Mayer is a Ron and Fez fan who just showed up to the studio. After talking with the boys for a while, he premiered the single from his upcoming album on air. This song has not been heard anywhere prior outside of the studio.
I really laughed alot at some of the stuff he said, especially ribbing on Fez about his sexuality. He rolls with things incredibly, alot cooler then I expected, even after the Chappelle thing
The song was called Waiting on the World To Change from the upcoming cd Continuum (no current release date)
I've been a fan of John Mayer since Room for Squares. His lyrics are what I am thinking, just a lot more poetic and comical. I have seen him in a couple interviews and live stuff and he is always funny. Its not suprising he likes Ron&Fez, but it is great that he has enough balls to show up like that. Its nice to know that not all "celebrities" are pussies that are afraid of their own publisists.

It goes back to what Ronnie was saying about people getting the
show. The people that "get it", love it. I'm not a
raving John Mayer fan.but I dug that new song, and it was super cool of
him to premier it on the show. Good for him, and good
for the buddays.

I'm not allowed to stream XM at work anymore, but I was lucky enough to be at home on my lunch hour when he came in.

Great stuff!

The more I find out about John Mayer the more I like him. I wasn't a huge fan of the first music of his I heard, but when I saw what a good sport he was on Chappelle's show (involved in a sketch about the differences between white music & black music, etc.) I went back & gave his music another chance. Still a little mellow for my taste, but good for a mellow mood.

Then I heard him interviewed and he was aksed, "As a performer, when you're on stage do you ever close your eyes and pretend you're someone else?"

His answer, "Stevie Ray Vaughan." -- that was enough for me.

Now to hear that he's a Ron & Fez fan, and paid them the compliment of debuting a tune on the show, I'll be buying that new CD whenever it comes out.

He completely changed my opinion of him today. Now I gotta go listen to his less popular stuff. I really liked the new song.

I'm kinda pissed I liked him too. I agreed with the caller who said his music was "douchy" but he seemed like a genuinely nice guy, and very likeable.

I'm also a bit upset that Ron and Fez are no longer "flying under the radar." I guess now they'll become sellouts and whore their show out to the latest star of the day.

Anyone know of any other witty radio shows with a gay/straight duo?

I've not liked him before and I doubt I will now. Too much pussy stuff for me. And the lyrics for "Your Body is a Wonderland" are just cringy bad. I will say this, that he's no Jack Johnson, and I mean that in a good way. Jack Johnson is such a pussy, he makes John Mayer look like Lemmy Kilmister.

Having said that, I know people that actually are friends with John Mayer and even lived with him before he got famous, and they swear he's a cool guy. so I'll have to go with that.

The Beatles formula (attempted by many, pulled off by a precious few) was something along the lines of become wildly popular by creating remarkably catchy pop music & then use the power of that popularity to do "deeper" stuff. And maybe that is a valid way to think about the beatles' musical arc. But, it is probably also just as valid (or perhaps more valid) to say that the beatles' early works were the efforts of fledgling songwriters who turned out to be the gold standard for pop/rock songwriting.

On the other hand you have John Mayer. And you have "Your Body Is A Wonderland". And I heard the new song debut. It didn't feel so much different.

And, by the way, if Mayer did calculate to get popular by releasing dreck. Consider that he contributed to a seemingly continual cycle of poisoning and dumbing down of the culture (I'd say since around the death of "grunge" -- these things do come in cycles, but damn if we haven't been in a long one). The popularity of his music led to other more and less crappy music of a similar style clogging things up. He gets no brownie points from me for this. He's part of the problem, even if he does rebound and create some good art, he has made things worse by showing up.

"Your Body Is A Wonderland" -- Never forget.

i will agree that the early beatles albums were pretty cheesy and i will never be a fan of that period...however the music scene as a whole was completly different when the beatles started and when they finished their career.... so much stuff was happening in that time that change was inevitable...you get introduced to lsd, pot, dylan, hendrix and all the wild shit going on around you and making the same pop records is just not an option

and if john mayer ends up writing as many good songs as the beatles did i will gladly retract my comments....

one more thing if you like john mayer more power to you....just not for me

and i realize nobody was comparing mayer and the beatles musically just pointing out how they got their start
