My lease is up this september and I have had it with renting. Im sick of paying off someone else mortgage. Has anyone gotten a VA loan? I did 4 years in the military and I qualify for one. I was wondering what steps to take and Do I need to buy a house or can I get a co op? Any help would be appreciated

my dad was able to get help with the down payment for our house in brooklyn. that was 26 years ago, but i remember him getting the help for it. just call the VA and see what they say.

on a medical side of things, get a chest xray and make a complete record of what you did and where you served and were stationed. my dad had to do it and once he did he was able to get $$$ for his breathing problems and other things.

My dad works for VA and he always says that he's there to help vets, but he can't help the ones he doesn't know need help.

Look it up on http://www.va.gov/ or call them and ask. The VA can provide a lot for vets, but you have to make the first step, they don't come to you.

I have my release papers aka the DD form 214. I looked on the VA web site and it said i needed to send a copy of it to the VA in WashingtonDC to get the certificate of eligibility. Thats the 1st step, after that then I believe i can start the rest of the process

Look into an 80/20 loan. Jeff and I just bought a house with this type of loan. You have one loan for 80%, and the other loan for 20% (at a higher rate). You will only need money for closing costs.
