I had never heard anything about this movie, but when I visited my pizza shop yesterday, all the large pizza boxes were covered in a promo for this film. I just saw the TRAILERS and it definitely looks like a movie Fez would hate (with his hatred of those animated commercials).

After viewing it a couple of times, I've determined that

1. Illustrated Keanu Reeves looks like Keanu Reeves

2. Illustrated Woody Harrelson looks creepy

3. Illustrated Winona Ryder looks hotter than live Winona Ryder

Is there any advantage or reason as to why they rotoscope an entire film in a realistic style as opposed to just releasing a live action film? It's actually more than a little distracting to me as it is!!!

I hear they're doing a version of Beowulf like that too.

linklater used rotoscoping (and it looks like the same austin folk) for his last non-kids movie, waking life ... in waking life, linklater recounts a phillip k dick story toward the end of the flick

maybe the subject matter lends better to a trippier feel, or maybe it's a cheaper alternative to a big budget flick ... shoot the movie on digital cameras, no need to worry too much on locations, sets, costumes or makeup -- just a bunch of austin animators & their high-end software

here are some waking life pics, same look/feel:

Commercials (Ipod anyone?), a Lars von Trier flick (The Five Obstructions). I think it makes for a very surreal image. The contrast is ratcheted up versus a live action film, and the environments take on a very 3D feel, much moreso that in a traditonal animated film. And it makes shooting much easier.

And "Before Sunset" was Linklater's last "non-kids" movie. My favorite of his, actually.

Agreed, actually. I saw it late one night watching cable and was prepared to absolutely hate it, because I usually do hate those kinds of movies. But I was really taken in by how well-written and engaging the dialogue was. It's like the anti-George Lucas movie.

Some call it rotoscoping, I just call it phenominal. I'm really looking forward to seeing this, but the nearest theater that's showing it is about an hour away. Man I hate living in a hick town sometimes.

edit: Oh, and thanks for the link to the first 24 minutes.
