A few jump to mind, but for me there is no bigger offender than THE MATRIX sequels.

I actually can't enjoy the first one anymore because #2 and #3 were so mind bending horrific. What REALLY pisses me off is the first MATRIX is a perfect example of the perfect sci-fi movie - NOTHING more needed to be said! As far as I was concerend, it was the BLADERUNNER of these times - we didn't need to go back and learn any more. So much of what made that first movie special was the mystery and discovery and the payoff.

Any others?

Jaws Revenge. Beverly HIlls Cop II was funny but they didn't need to make a third.

Agreed. This thread begins and ends with the Star Wars prequels. It's amazing how much effort was put into RUINING one of, if not THE, greatest franchise ever.

Those prequels don't make sense on their own OR in relation to the original trilogy. Screw you George Lucas. Screw you.

The first thing that came to mind was the Matrix for me too. Do you remember how awesome that 1st one was?! "There is no spoon..."

I'll go with the Matrix sequels as well. I basically pretend that they don't exist. I think the Matrix is a fine film, and I like to just leave it at that. Just pretend that Neo went and saved the world / mankind or something like that. Pretend that those awful sequels never existed.

Matrix takes it in a landslide. What gets me is in the end of the 1st film, Neo is a true badass. The start of the 2nd, he is just kind of a dude that can fly. What the hell happened?

I think their needs to be a committee that decides when franchises should be taken away from their creators.

Two awful movies that somewhat ruin the original: Caddyshack II and Sting II.

I didn't care for the Matrix sequels either. I can understand why people really like those movies as well, though I was pretty much happy with the first on its own.

Anything after Lethal Weapon 2, Weekend at Bernies 2, Charlies Angels - Full Throttle, Die Hard the one with Samuel Jackson

Red Dragon....granted it's technically a prequel to Silence of the Lambs / Alternate Manhunter though I didn't care for it at all.

I agree that Star Wars by and far sets the standard for completely fucking up a beloved franchise, but the Matrix films are pretty close. Someone mentioned that the 2nd one isn't that bad IF they had knocked it out of the part with a killer finale, and I completely think that's true. The 2nd one isn't terrible...it's just so reliant on a sequel that the 3rd movie being SO bad completely drags it down, so maybe that does make the Matrix films the "winner" in this thread. The PT for Star Wars is awful, but you con totally ignore them and still have the OT as a quality set of films. The Matrix series, you only have 1 good film left on its own.

And since it's out there, the 4th and 5th Superman movies make watching the original 2 a total chore. I still love moments of them, but the latter 2 sucking so much just highlights the hokey flaws of the first 2 way too much.

You don't feel like it needs any more explanation.

By making any sequels, they destroyed the whole mythology/rules they established in the original. Then they made the series, which while not bad like the sequels, also destroys the original, though it does keep more in line with the rules it established.

I can't believe they made them aliens. That whole premise also screws with the timeline from the original.

I started thinking about this topic again last night after flipping through 2 of the worst sequels ever last night ( in all I was boucning between 3 sequels, with Friday The 13th Part 7 being the other one but I didn't mind that as much as these other 2 ).

Major League 2, which was mentioned earlier, is so bad not only because of its lack of conistency w/ the actors but just that it was so f'ing CORNY. I mean just plain shit.

Omar Epps could be the worst actor ever if it werent for that guy that played the catcher ( who may also be the guy that farts in the car window in Can't Buy Me Love ).

The movie is also bad in that it just doesn't relate well.

Obvioulsy its a movie and they are going to take liberties but are we to belive that the Whitesox would leave in the same pitcher for 8 innings in a close game ?

And that They would walk one guy to get to the leagues' best hitter just so Vaughn could get his manhood back >

I gotta be honest and say that the more i watch the first one the more I realize that it really sucked and wasnt a good movie either. List it as one of those movies that the more you watch it the more you hate it ( I now feel the same way about Ferris Bueller )

The other movie on last night was Robocop 3. Now not that either of the first 2 were good but this one sucked more than the other 2 combined.
