You could remove Best Buy and insert almost any large retail store's name here, and it would all be just as true.

If we want quality materials, you still have to go to a smaller place, like a lumber year, a roofing supply, cabinet maker, etc, etc.

I hate best buy for the same reason. for the most part they stock shit. I think the BEST audio equipment they stock is pioneer and alpine. Atleast circuit city has polk and onkyo. Regardless, for dvd's and cd's, if i'm not illegally burning them, i'm buying them at best buy, because they have a great selection.

There is no way Best Buy could have known that the camera repair business had hired two people who would be willing to do what they did. I don't blame Best Buy at all.

As for Home Depot vs. Lowes... Home Depot does suck. The lumber is bad, as said before and they have terrible customer service. Lowes, on the other hand, has been a favorite of mine for decades.

So wait... First Best Buy sucks because they have a couple of low paid dunderheads who saw an opportunity for big bucks and took it. While I don't condone their actions, it's just as likely that this would happen with low level employees at chain stores.
Then Best Buy sucks more than Target, WalMart, Home Depot, etc. because the merchandise they carry requires that customers rely on advice of the salespeople. I take it your references are to sales people helping with electronic equipment. Well, news flash, you're hard pressed to find any chain store that sells electronics where the sales team knows their products well. That's the nature of the beast. There are many, many products that are constantly changing, and there's no economic sense in staffing a sales force with a team of product experts. If you're going to buy electronics anywhere, you need to do your homework ahead of time which is pretty damn easy with the internet. Placing the blame on just Best Buy is silly.

I haven't been crazy about Best Buy lately. Bad floor reps. Also, they NEVER seem to have big bags when I buy something larger. I'm not talking about fitting a TV in it. I mean a decent big bag to put a small DVD player box in. They're always like 'no big bags - you'll have to carry it'. That sucks when you have to take the subway home.

On the other hand, I got an Andre the Giant DVD there for like 7 bucks. Awesome!

I listed my own, personal reasons why Best Buy sucks, backed up with not one but TWO stories of IGNORANCE - not knowing the consumer products, but straight out IGNORANCE - giving my reasons for hatred of Best Buy.

The reason why the Camera found its way to that third party is because of the lengendary Best Buy "Extended Warranty". If Best Buy is making money on extended warranty and then sending it out to third party repair shops, they do hold a share of responsibility if something goes wrong.

I am for consumer empowerment, and I believe Best Buy goes against that ideal. So yes, it's a reason why Best Buy sucks.

I was going to make a thread just like this a few weeks ago...
What happened to one of my favorite stores? It used to be THE PLACE to get anything enterainment related, but now I can't find anything I want there AT ALL...they used to have new games almost always a couple days before their release date, now you go there even a week later, and they still don't have them...I had to go to WALMART (yuck) to buy MLB 2K6 and at least THREE different BB's to get "Hitman: Blood Money"
From now on, im thinking of either buying online, or trying a smaller place like an EB Games or something like that....I don't really know where else to go to buy movies, Circuit City sucks even more balls than Best Buy
EDIT: Speaking of warranty horror stories, when I brought my Laptop from there, and I told the guy I didn't want any service plan, he looked at me like I just cut a fart and asked "May I please ask why?"
I wouldn't trust those nitwits for anything...and im also tired of them trying to get me to buy magazine subscriptions in the checkout line

I had my worst experience yet with Best Buy this past weekend. I am officially done with them (I know that'll really hurt them - they'll probably go out of business now). Damned no-nothing jerk kids giving me misinformation time and time again. I went back and forth to the Best Buy nearest me 3 different times this past Saturday for the same thing, and never got it. best buy is something i worship!

I haven't shopped at Best Buy since I got an ipod for my gf's b-day a couple years ago. First, the clerk grabbed an ipod accessory and said I would need it without even asking me if I wanted it. It was an unnecessary $46 piece of crap, so I told her no.

Then, I go through the check out procedure and was about to sign on the little pad to finalize the purchase. However, I stopped to read the pad and realized it wasn't the credit card verification screen, it was some agreement to use napster free for a couple weeks, which would then start charging me $15 a month after the trial period was over. I had to sign to agree. At that point, I got pissed and told the clerk to get rid of that stupid screen and finish the purchase. In hind sight, I should have just left and got the ipod somewhere else.

I haven't been back since. F-'em.

I'm not going to lie. I used to do tech support in college, and if I found something interesting on someone's computer I would make a copy of it. I'm not talking about personal stuff, but things like porn, funny movies, and things like that. It probably happens a lot more than you imagine. And if you guys think the network admins at your work don't check the logs occasionally to see what fucked up web sites people go to while they're supposed to be on the clock, you're seriously kidding yourselves.

Oh, I know. I once did a search for something because I was trying to find out some more information about a double murder I was researching at work, and I somehow wandered onto www.stormfront.org - I was scared shitless for a week I was gonna be fired.
I actually have an end-around for any nosy tech supports if I have a hardware issue I can't fix; I have two hard drives that just have an OS and basic operations on them. If Dell or someone else needs to take a look at the machine, the hard drives that are in them are taken out, replaced with the "vanilla drive".
Anything with a software issue can be investigated on the internet.
Now, granted - sometimes the snooping leads to good things - that's how Gary Glitter got busted for kiddie porn...

I worked for best buy for 5 years... While there are some shitty employees you will find that everywhere...
There's a big reason that forbes has rated them company of the year more then once, it's because they are good...
They have better training then any other electronics retailer, and, the Extended Warranty is the best in the industry...
Now, if you install something like a car radio yourself, and you are not a certified installer, you not only void the warranty on the radio, but any type of electrical warranty you have on your car is voided as well....

And thank you for proving my point, because disinformation like this is patently false. Unless you cut wires on either the stereo or your car, you don't void the warranty on either your car or your stereo. That's the point behind buying the harness - you don't cut anything, you just connect and go.
And if installing it yourself voided Warranties, then companies like Crutchfield would have serious problems. The very basis of their business is doing it yourself for Car Audio.
