Would have been really cool to hear what Cobain would be doing these days - if anything.

Grohl & I auditioned for the same band here in VA many moons ago. needless to say- I didn't get the gig... THAT band - SCREAM - went to the west coast / ran out of money / broke up / Grohl was stranded and took the gig with Nirvana. ...ironicly enough - when X nirvana guitarist Pat Smear (theres a name you never hear anymore eh?) Pat Smear left FOO - he was replaced by Northern VA guitarist and the guy who first hired Grohl for SCREAM - Franz Stahl.

This has been Grohl 101 - fucker took my job. He'll end up in the hall of fame and I will continue to write sequels and pre-quels about sexual relations with pastry. fuck off.

now i hate him and the little tribute. fuckin sell out junkys.

without Cobain, Grohl would have never been shit.

not bashing him but he got his break in Nirvana, Kurts band....Kurt wrote all the music, Kurt wrote all the lyrics and Dave Grohl got a paycheck. again, no disrespect intended, i like Dave Grohls music, have a couple of ff cds and i even met him at my brothers guitar shop. but those are the facts, friend.
ConnieSwail wrote:
without Grohl Cobain was shit.
BTW, nice job Duke! i enjoyed it!

without Grohl Cobain was shit

I really hope that was a joke. How many songs did Dave write? Dave Grohl wasnt even on Bleach which was a kick ass record. Dave is awesome and Im a big fan...but lets not get carried away. By the way, Pat Smear is re-joining the Foos for their upcoming tour.

ConnieSwail wrote:
without Grohl Cobain was shit.

I saw Nirvana twice in the pre-Grohl days and I can safely say they were well on their way to being a great band. I particularly remember a show where they used the Melvins drummer and blew the headliners (Sonic Youth) right out of the building.

I will say that Grohl was an essential ingredient in giving them the polish necessary for mainstream success, but he didn't contribute the songwriting vision - that was all Cobain.

Grohl is great though, and even without Grohl nirvana was good (bleach album) but Grohl put them over the top...although in Kurt was a better song writer..Grohl is very talented he was an excellent drummer in nirvana and he is a good guitar player in the foo fighters...he did write the song "marigold" for nirvana btw...but then again you cant compare someone to kurt he was a genious with his lyrics

marigold was a great song but it was largely unheard until the box set. it was on a single that not a lot of people bought and was never on an album, that is why i didnt mention it.

Duke wrote:
Grohl is great though, and even without Grohl nirvana was good (bleach album) but Grohl put them over the top...although in Kurt was a better song writer..Grohl is very talented he was an excellent drummer in nirvana and he is a good guitar player in the foo fighters...he did write the song "marigold" for nirvana btw...but then again you cant compare someone to kurt he was a genious with his lyrics
Pearl Jam and Nirvana did not ever sound even remotely alike, except for the fact they all played guitars, bass and drums and came from the same city. STP were nothing but total Alice In Chains and Pearl Jam ripoffs with that first shitty album, and I say that as someone who loves STP and Weiland. They got MUCH better when they tried to glam things up and started ripping off Redd Kross instead.

He's a great singer.

- Pear Jam is fantastic -but EV pisses me off... being too serious and dramafied all the time.. you don't have to be so deep and emo 24/7 Eddie. - ( take lessons from REM/Stipe) Brilliant - but nobody can really stomache the guy anymore - and REM suffered becuz of it. - ( bono somehow can balance it out well - learn from him )
