Here's the scene in T2 where John teaches the Terminator about the key trick:

91 SAME IMAGE. Now DAYLIGHT streams in the dusty windows.
Terminator has not moved. Faithful machine sentinel. He turns at a
sound. John stirs, waking up. He squints into the sunlight. Sarah
is still awake. She gets up, wincing at the pain in her arm.

CUT TO:

92 EXT. GAS STATION - DAY (LATER)

John and Terminator walks to an old Chevy pickup parked behind the
garage. The day is clear but windy. Dust devils chase themselves
behind the place. The pickup is locked but Terminator breaks the side
window with his fist and opens the door. He and John climb in.

92A IN THE PICKUP. Terminator has this trick (which you could do too if
you had servo-driven steel fingers) where he smashes the cowl around
a steering column with one blow from the palm of his hand. When it
shatters he strips it away with a single move, and then turns the stub
of the lock-mechanism with his fingertips. This starts the vehicle.
It takes about three seconds.

In fact, he does it so quickly, the truck is running by the time John
flips down the sun visor. A set of keys drops out and John catches
them. Dangles them in front of Terminator's eyes.

JOHN
Are we learning yet?

The problem in T3 is that John didn't program the Arnold model in T3. Katherine Brewster-Connor did because John was killed by the Arnold model in T-3 that was sent back.

And Skynet sent THREE terminators back. The first one, T-1000, and T-X.

And yes, T-3 was wholly satisfying, and I kinda wish they'd make T-4 with the Rock.

A key theme in the Terminator movies is that Fate is what we make of it, but it's always inevitable.

As the Arnold model said in T3 - Judgment day wasn't stopped, just delayed. It is inevitable.

Love how it ended as well.

The other answer is that the T3 Terminator was programmed that bit of information, while the other one wasn't. The reason could be because John told Claire Danies this bit of information further in history and she remembered that he taught that trick to the T2 Arnold, and in order to make it easier for John to work with the T3 Arnold, she programmed the T3 model with this information.

It is inevitable.

I'd say that was a theme of the first and third movies. The screenplay I was relying on had a slightly different ending so I couldn't track the specific language, but didn't the end to the second have Sarah Connor saying something about how they could not create their own destiny?

That's one of the problems I had with T2 actually - it contradicted the time theory of T1. T1 essentially had the theory that you can't changed time by traveling back in time - rather, it creates the very future that existed.

T2 had a different theory that the future can be changed by time travel to the past.

Someone said something about King Solomon's temple. It really was King David's temple, but that was destroyed when Babylon invaded. When the Israelites came back, the built it again, and then Rome destroyed it during the uprising during the 1st century AD. Now the Dome of the Rock is built on the site where the temple used to be.
