If you're looking for a fun place (though I don't know about cheap), try the Keepers House in Maine.

http://www.keepershouse.com/

It's an old lighthouse converted to a B&B. I took my then girlfriend (now wife) there for a weekend and had a blast (if you don't mind, no electrity, no phone service, etc.).

Drive to Portland ME. Stay downtown, eat lobster and blueberry pie on the cheap. Go to a Portland Sea Dogs Minor League Baseball Game. Go to LL Bean outlets. Lots of fun little shops and galleries.

last year my guy and i went to niagara falls for a long weekend. it's kinda nice to walk around the main strip, and take the boat & walking tour on the falls, and more importantly, there are a ton of vineyards closeby, as well as the NY and CA casino.

The nice thing about Niagara Falls is you can get an eight ball and a hooker 10 feet from where you can also get funnel cake and cheap souvenirs.

And if you end up going there, I apologize for Niagara Falls, NY. Mistakes were made, people didn't know what they were doing.

Montreal....the Paris of North America!!! Quite possibly the best city in the world. Everything you need is there, you can go sightseeing in the historic district right on the water, take a $5 cab ride to the Casino, go eat to a great dinner, and (if you're lucky) see your girlfriend get a lapdance for $10 Canadien from a beautiful completely nude stripper at La Che Paris....like I said, best city ever. Me and the woman go up there at least once a year. It is 390 miles from the city, 6-7 hour ride. Unfortunately, you just missed the Jazz fest which was last week.

I was going to say Montreal as well, a slightly long drive, but worth it, and you get a slight deal on the exchange rate (at least the last time I was there), excellent food, lots of bars and clubs, and an interesting city.

Drive up to the finger lakes area and go on some winery tours. They have companies that will drive you from winery to winery while you get wrecked. Most of the places have free tastings. make sure to hit Bully hill and Hazlitt, my two favorites.

Corning or Watkins Glen are good bases of operation while up there. It is also a really pretty area and cheap too.

Lake George is another cheap place you can do. Lots to do on the water and in the village. there are amusement parks, an awesome mini golf course, and bars at night. It's about a 4 hour trip from the city.

Try a cheap cruise. If you sneak your own booze it's not too bad.
