I know most consider this a joke and it will most likely suck (hopefully not as bad as Rocky 5), but I can't help but get excited when I hear the music during the training and fight scenes. I'm actually looking forward to this.

Rocky Balboa

Doesn't look too bad.

I think it may suck too like rocky 5 did but I'm hoping it will be more like the first 4. Anyway I cant wait to see it. For those of us that grew up in the 80's and early 90's Rocky was a big part of our entertainment. Plus hes Italian.

Rocky, Rocky, Rocky!!!

When I heard Rocky 6 was coming out I just went nuts thinking how awful it would be.

That being said, watching that trailer, hearing that music, just got my blood pumping. I think it will actually be alright. I'm sure going to see it.

The world needs Rocky. The world needs Rocky.

I can't believe he's gonna go back to the well again with the same "underdog" story. He's gonna announce a fight. He will start to train "old school". Adrian will yell. He will go back to training. He wins the fight.

I guess it's because I'm not a sports-guy but...I am amazed at how similar every sports movie is! Remembering The Titans. Glory Road. Whateverrrr. They're all more formulaic than Hairmetal ballads.

HeyGuy
07-12-2006, 04:43 AM

From what I heard and read, Adrian isnt in the movie. The storyline is suppose to be that adrian is dead and Rocky is bored. So he decides to train and take small local fights just to keep busy. Then everything happens from there. Thats the story I heard anyone else hear it this way or different?

I'm actually angry that I'm looking forward to this movie. It's such a ridiculous premise, but like other people have said, you hear that music & you're a kid again & you're locked in.

And, yes, from what I've read Adrian is dead. Also...Mason "The Line" Dixon as the present-day champ...worse character nickname ever! Even for a fighter.

07-12-2006, 04:57 AM

Yeah, Adrian is supposed to be dead in this movie, and I must say that Paulie looks as old now as he did in the original.

I am going to have to see it. I've seen the first 5, so I feel obligated to see the final one. It's not like it could be any worse than most of the movies out there now.

YO ADRIAN!!!!!

To be honest, the trailer didn't really thrill me all that much and I have a feeling that the storyline may not be as impressive as we are all hoping it to be. The music though did get me a bit excited, only and only for that reason alone, I am going to go see this movie when it comes out and cheer for Rocky. Hope he makes some money finally and get out of the slumps. I hope they bring Ivan Drago back, that would be a good touch, yeah I know, wishful thinking...

I think Ron will either be first in line to see it, or will completely forswear it. He does seem to love Rocky generally a lot.

I'm a sucker for the franchise (although IV was pretty bad!), and boxing films in general. The concept of this film has me intrigued. I'll probably check it out in the theaters unless all the reviews are terrible. Then I'll wait for the DVD. The fact that this guy is in the shape he's in is incredible at age 60!
Ugh. I won't even watch it when it shows up on cable. There hasn't been a Rocky movie that's been good on any level since the 3rd one, and even the 3rd one, as much as I enjoyed it as a kid, is really a shitty, shitty popcorn flick.

I love the premise of this movie. I was 100% sure he lost and died in the end until I saw the trailer. The fact that it's an exhibition fight means that if rocky wins he won't win the belt (thus not needing another movie/fight/etc).

I would like to see them retire the series on a high note. Let Rocky win one with a lucky something or other and have him start his own gym or some shit.

Oh, and the question of whether or not his son gets involved is answered in the trailer if you pay attention

Oh, and about sports movies being cookie cutter, they really can't go too many ways. A movie about a powerhouse winning it all again and covering every spread really doesn't move people. The only way that works is if they are showing all the problems and sacrafices along the way and proving how corrupt sports are... still cookie cutter.

If you're going to go for that same movie but want more people to feel like "That could be me!" then all you have to do is make it a super long shot... because any of US doing that is a super long shot, so you feel more into the movie.

Just watched it on cable. And all in all, it was pretty good.

It was slow to start, but kinda nostalgic in a nice way.
The middle had me heading to the couch, thinking about a nap,
but when the training started, and that music,
I sat back up and was excited the rest of the movie.

Stallone definitely knew what he was doing with this;
get all the fans from the earlier Rocky's, who are now older as well,
and get them behind their hero, an "underdog" again due to his age!

My friends lied to me and told me he doesnt even fight in this movie, but mentors a younger fighter. Had I known he fights, I may not have watched.
But again, the formula, and that music, got me going.

Maybe it's because I was sooo disappointed with Old Indiana Jones, and had lowered expectations here, but I enjoyed it for what it was worth.

I have no need to see it again, but I would recommend it to guys my age who have nothing better to do on a rainy afternoon.

Maybe I'll even give Rambo a shot now.

I thought the final Rocky was good. It wrapped up the series and leaves the character at peace.

I recommend Rambo, I rented it a couple of weeks ago. There's a lot killings in it (I hope that didn't ruin it for you) but the character ends at some sort of peace too.
