I really loved Asia! I still have a cassette taped version of their show in Japan (Asia in Asia) that was broadcast in NYC on WAPP in 1983. Greg Lake became the singer for a very short time but he and Carl Palmer couldn't get past their differences and Lake left shortly after that show. I loved the short life of this band however.
He had been in Uriah Heep and King Crimson.

Steve Howe: Guitar. Of Yes.

Carl Palmer: Drums. Of ELP.

Geoff Downes: Keys. Half of the Buggles, w/ Trevor Rabin, who went on to produce mucho hit and Grammy collecting albums.

At least I also saw VH/Diver Down that year too to balance it out.

And Asia, for fuck sake, is touring with the above original members, coming soon too a teensy tiny venue near you.

Does anyone else remember the rumors from the early 1980's, that members of Yes and Zeppelin were going to start a group called XYZ? (ex-Yes Zeppelin)

Velvet Revolver is absolutly a supergroup. But the hands down winner of this is the Traveling Wilburys.

the Backbeat Band came together for a brief moment in 1993-94 to record and promote the soundtrack to Backbeat, Iain Softley's 1994 fair-to-midlin film chronicling the Fab Four's pre-Beatlemania era in England and Hamburg. Consisting of Afghan Whigs vocalist Greg Dulli, R.E.M. bassist Mike Mills, Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl, Sonic Youth vocalist/guitarist Thurston Moore, Gumball guitarist (and prolific producer) Don Fleming, and Soul Asylum vocalist Dave Pirner, the Backbeat Band punctuated the steak-and-potato days of '90s alt-rock with a set of vibrant interpretations of songs the Beatles covered during performances in their pre-Brian Epstein leathers at grimy venues such as Liverpool's Cavern Club and Hamburg's Star Club. Recording the soundtrack's dozen numbers in 1993, the Backbeat Band played one confirmed "gig" during their time together: a blink-and-you-missed-it stage appearance at the MTV Movie Awards on June 10, 1994.

Cmon everybody.mp3

TWIST AND SHOUT.mp3

I abso-fucking-lutely love The Dirty Mac. Without question, the best part of The Stones Rock n Roll Circus. That version of Yer Blues is so much better than what's on The White Album. I love watching a coked up Clapton grind his teeth into knubs while playing.
