<p>Here's a question for those of you with children that are, let's say, above the age of 11 or 12.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Do your children know what an Encyclopedia is?&nbsp; </p><p>Do they use the &quot;card catalog&quot; when they go to the library?</p><p>Do they use the newspaper to look up movie times?</p><p>Do they use the phone book to look up phone numbers?</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Obviously, I have an agenda here. This is part of another discussion. Thanks.</p>

Thanks.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>I have a 9, 14 and 16 Year old.</p><p>We have always used the hardbound Dictonary and Ecyclopedias (Brittanica 2002 full set (books and Software) purchased through the public school book fair for a decent discount). Of course the computer is quickly becoming the reference resource of choice. Its just too easy and extremely flexible (we'll be paying for those encyclopedias for years).<br /></p><p>There is no Card Catalog since about 2000. It's all on computer now.</p><p>They use the online movie timetables generally, but when they're looking quick and aren't near a PC they grab the newspaper.</p><p>They always use the phone book. I ain't payin' to find a number that they can look up for free! </p>

I've got a question for parents of teens. How do you get a 16 year old to get off his ass and get a job? I already stopped giving him money.

</p><p>1.&nbsp; Yes.&nbsp; Tend to use computer more, but do use encyclopedias also.</p><p>2.&nbsp; I honestly have no idea.</p><p>3.&nbsp; Depends on where we are.&nbsp; Internet at home, newspaper when at in-laws (which is most weekends).</p><p>4.&nbsp; Haven't had a phone book in 6 years.&nbsp; Use yellowpages.com or google.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><blockquote /><p>&nbsp;</p>

stopped buying all of the extras for my 16 year old.&nbsp; If he wants
anything (clothes, haircuts, games, movies), he has to get the money on

It's not that kids can't or don't know how, it just takes too fuckin long. It's alot easier to just call a number or use the internet.</p><p>On that topic, I don't even know the last time i was in a library&nbsp;</p>

also, there is now 1-800-free-411 to get numbers. Phone books are a giant waste or resources, just like car catalogs<br />
