I've started to live on my laptop since moving into my apartment. As of yesterday, it keeps shutting off anytime I move the monitor. I scanned the system for viruses... nothing. I have more than 50% memory ((about 9.5 GB)) and cannot think of whats causing the problem. I thought maybe it was overheating, so I unplugged the machine and didn't run it for 8 hours. Flipped it on today, and again it wouldn't stay on when I moved the monitor. I tried doing a quick search online and didn't find anything. Figured you guys have always helped me in the past, so to try once again. Thanks in advance, once again.

BTW, its a Dell Latitude.

This happened to my friend's dell laptop so i can tell you what was wrong with his

It was 2 things:

1 being the cord from the wall outlet to the computer was starting to bend the wrong way and the wires inside were coming apart from the plug.

2. the connections inside the laptop to the monitor were loose.

The 1st thing is very common for dell plugs. It has happened on all 5 plugs dell has sent me. With laptops, at least when i brought mine to school, i would roll the wires up and hook them to the little ac adapter and that was how they were becoming loose inside so dell just kept sending me new ones.

You might want to try Dell's Message boards on their customer service site, people there have every problem imaginable.

But if not, try a different ac adapter

There was a ribbon cable which'd come loose. Seated it again and the problem went away. Dis/Reassembling a laptop isn't fun though.

i would recommend not disassembling a laptop unless you knew exactly what you were doing, there are so many small connections that easily come loose and you wouldnt even know it.

Have you tried the AC adapter at all? Try the laptop when its not plugged in.

I would have said from the start it's option #2 above. You most likely have a loose connection in it. Call Dell and have them fix it.
