The Bering Sea pollock fishery is the largest in the world with a total allowable catch of 1.5 million tons this year. The bland, white fish goes into a variety of popular products, including fast-food fish sandwiches, fish sticks and fake crabmeat.

some food establishments will just say "crabmeat" instead of "fake crabmeat" and possibly charge a "crabmeat" price? i don't know maybe i'm being paranoid...

i enjoy almost all seafood from scungilli to scrod and admit the "fake crabmeat" when fresh is a tasty snack...

article that peaked my interest

The thought of bycatch makes me want to vomit. The world really needs to
get with the times and take a look at Australian fishery's system.
Probably most anyone that's had a fishstick or fish sandwich has had pollack
- it's frequently used these days instead of cod (and subsequently, haddock),
since the cod fishery is so fucked.
