My ex wants to give my 16 year old son this Dodge minivan. I'm all for it, but I'd like to check into the safety record of it, as his driving experience is VERY limited. Can anyone tell from these pics what model and year this vehicle is? Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, buddays!

I did the best I could to match the lights and grill.

Good to hear. Just to be safe, check the 92 and 94. Good luck.

Not to be a douche, but why are you doubting the safety of the car the kid's MOTHER wants to give him?

Also, shouldn't the registration/VIN/etc. have the make year and model?

If anything, I'd run a carfax and take it to a Pepboys for a servicing.

I haven't laid eyes on it, myself. I do plan to run a carfax when I finally get to see it. Pepboys around here really sucks.

Classic soccer-mom mobile...if its safe enought to get the kids to and from practice it should be safe enough for anyone. Jus kiddn, I wouldve killed someone to get my parents to buy me a car in high school.

The van is definitely a late 80's or early 90's Caravan. Chrysler used that same platform for years for their Caravans, Voyagers, and Town and Countrys. If it's a 4 cylinder I'd stay away; they're notorious for blowing cylinder heads. If it's a 6 and the mileage isn't too high it shouldn't be a bad vehicle.

FYI - The tenth digit of the VIN will tell you what model year the vehicle is.

The thing is, your kid could pimp it out too. A second battery, a flatscreen, a 360... that'll be a tuna wagon in no time.

Smaller tires, no badges on the side - GVAC's right, this could be a 4-cylinder. However, in this day and age, since it looks like a beater anyway, that might be a blessing on the fuel economy.
