I'm looking for restaurants with outdoor seating that isn't on the street, in
Manhattan, that I can take my grandmother to. The only one I can think of
off-hand is the Terrace, which is good, except that we go there all the time.
That should give you an idea as to the kind of place I'm looking for (i.e. good
food, classy, quiet, probably expensive, though that by no means necessarily
reflects on the quality of the food - mediocre to bad food can be very
expensive, but by and large, really outstanding food with few exceptions
tends to necessarily be expensive, too, because of the price of the raw
products going into it; I'm not looking for a Yaffa Cafe type place), but I'm by
no means averse to smaller, less fancy places as long as the food is really
excellent and they're the sort of quiet place I'd take my grandmother. If
Blue Hill had outdoor seating it would be perfect: that is the level of food,
decor and service I'm looking for. If anyone has been to Oleana up in
Cambridge, that is EXACTLY what I want (p.s. it is REALLY good and if you're
up in the Boston area, go there. It's beautiful and the food is lovely), but
unfortunately places like that seem to be a lot rarer in NYC.
She's got liver cancer and doesn't have much time left; she lives in my
apartment building so I see her all the time, but right now my grandfather is
out of town and she's alone, so my mom and I thought it would be nice to
have dinner together while he's gone...
