My monitor is throwing out interference to my radio, causing a whistling effect on the AM band. Is there a way to correct this?

Unfortunately turning the radio also turns the ferrite antenna that the radio uses to pick up the am signal so your station may not come in as clearly.

As Rich wrote, get the radio away from the computer and the monitor as far as possible. 
Flat panels throw off much less noise (hash) and they're getting cheaper. 
If there's a way to hook up a (grounded) external antenna, do that.  That's what I did.

Why do you need so many radios?Are you trying to pick up signals from the past like that shitty Dennis Quaid movie?This message was edited by CuzBum on 7-26-06 @ 9:10 PM Hey, Look where this thread went!There tons of us out there.  Old radio nuts.  Just like old car restorers, I restore old radios.  Some are <a href="http://www.arrl.org/" target="_self">Hams</a> like me.  What you see are just the nicer old radios my wife lets be bring upstairs.  There are plenty more downstairs.   The biggie on the left is a Hammarlund SP-600 circa 1954.  One of the best pieces of American military/civilian radio technology produced at that time - save the Collins-designed radios.  It's restored and works like a champ.  No buzz.  The rest are FM "rice box" Japanese rigs or what not.  Why so many?  Most of them do different things.  They receive and tranmit on different frequencies. Ham radio is a hobby that never ends.  Learn about things.  Astronomy.  Math.  Computers.  You name it.  It's a hobby filled with people a lot smarter than I am.  That's why I like it. As for that Dennis Quaid movie 'frequency', I thought it sucked too.  Good premise though.

I'm not saying Hams are bad. They definitely aren't. However.... about 20 years ago, there was a Ham in my area who would give lessons to kids. Kids who he eventually got high and drunk, and took pictures of. The good news is, when he finally went to prison, he tried to tell everyone a lie about why he was there. A guy my brother knows made sure to call him out in the cafeteria, so all the other inmates knew the truth.

Want to stop your monitor from giving off signals to other things, then build a farday cage around the monitor.  the only way to be close to it and still recieve a good signal.  Farday cages block radio waves.
