OK, this really is "Old School". I can't believe that 45's are gone, and that future generations wll never experience the joy of buying a 45 and popping in one of those yellow disks in the middle.
What was your first? I think mine was "Running Bear", but I fondly remember having Hendrix's "Hey Joe".

Pink Floyd's "The Wall Part II" (the "We don't need no education" song).

I brought it into my elementary school music class for the day when we were allowed to bring in our own music to share and it caused quite a stir. Then the next kid played "Convoy" and everything was gravy again.

I don't know if I can remember exactly which was first, but I'd say probably either "Photograph" by Ringo Starr or "Walk On the Wild Side" by Lou Reed. I remember being pissed off because the "giving head" line was deleted from the 45.

My first 45 was I think The Beatles, Slow Down with Matchbox on the flip side. The best part of the 45's was when the sleeve had a picture on it. Being a kid at the time, I drew mustaches and beards on all mine and ruin any value they might have had.

I used to write my initials on my 45's, and I stored them in those big round plastic cylinder things. I always liked The "Apple" label on the Beatles singles, before the orange and yellow swirl on their Capitol stuff. Oh yeah, Badfinger were also on Apple.

They live on in the form of 7" records and singles at Indie Shops. Corporate rock, BOO!

"King Tut", Steve Martin may have been the first 45 I ever bought.

My parents gave me their old Beatles, Stones, and Beach Boys 45s when I was a kid.

Ray Parker- "Theme of Ghostbusters." On the B-side was the exact same song only without the vocals. What do you want from me, I was six?

Stone In Love With You by the Stylistics. I Also have King Tut by Steve Martin still in its original dust cover. I also have many of the original Beatles 45's passed down by an Uncle or something. I just think it's amazing that we used to sit around listening to one record at a time on our little portable phonographs. That is unless you had the super HiFi unit in the living room which could stack about 10 records at a time... Ahhhh, those were the days! Gotta go... My CD changer is acting up! <P>

I only bought 2 myself, but my parents had tons of em.

*Star wars theme, i think the Cantina theme was on the b-side.
*Napoleon Bonapart- "They're Coming to Take me Away"
(the b-side was a backwards version of the same song, even freakier!!!)

My mom took my brother and I to the Woolworth's in Lynbrook and told us that we each could pick out a 45. My choice? "I'm A Believer" by the Monkees. I loved that song. However, it peeves me to this day that in retrospect, my brother picked out a much cooler 45 than I did...."What's New Pussycat?" by Tom Jones.
