Tell me if I have this right... Computer question

<p>OK... so I picked up a used APC Back-UPS Pro 420. Please tell me if I have this right.</p><p>&nbsp;Say I'm working on a photo project, and the power goes out. Is this thing going to&nbsp;keep my comp powered long enough for me to save my work, then shut down my computer? That's what I'm hoping it does, but the user's manual that I downloaded is only two pages. It doesn't tell me much.</p><p><img height="180" src="http://z-buy.com/product/images/UP-APBP420S.gif" width="180" border="0" /></p><p>&nbsp;Also... with all the web searches I've done, it only mentions older Windows versions than XP. It's an old model. Does this matter?</p><p>Thanks.</p>

Now I'm waiting on a further response from APC, on how to use the Powerchute Plus function with my Windows XP computer. They actually responded pretty quick. If this works out, it will be pretty damn cool.

An UPS will keep your computer running for a short period of time after the power goes out. You don't need to install any special software unless you want to monitor the UPS from your computer or have it automatically shutdown your computer when the power goes out.<br />

Why don't you just unplug it from the wall and see what happens?
