HAVANA - Little was known of
Fidel Castro's condition Tuesday after he underwent an operation and temporarily turned over the Cuban presidency to his brother Raul, ushering in a period of uncertainty at home and celebrations by his enemies abroad.
The surprise announcement that Castro had been operated on to repair a "sharp intestinal crisis with sustained bleeding" stunned Cubans on the island and in exile, and marked the first time that Castro, two weeks away from 80th birthday, had relinquished power in 47 years of absolute rule.

My girl friend is Cuban and has family that lived in Cuba. They all despise the man. I would love to see this man die a horrible death.

Cuba was so much nicer when it was run by the mafia.

This shmuck gets to die peacefully, and will probably throw himself a huge funeral party.

True, it would have been sweeter if he had been tossed out of power before he died, but look on the bright side: he'll be dead soon, Cuba will have a great opportunity to toss off the remnants of his regime and grab themselves some freedoms and liberty and the Yankees will have easier access to all the good pitchers down there.

Since ol' Fidel was like the textbook case of a cult of personality I doubt Raul can keep the game going for long on his own. Cuba has (unlike Iraq or N. Korea) a lot of the building blocks for a stable democracy so I suspect their transition will be a lot smoother than most. Did I mention they just discovered oil?

It would have been nice to send him off with a Ceausescu style 21 gun salute into his belly but not many things in life have such a "poetic" ending.

they dont say how much oil is there, a lot of oil to a country without any recouces could be 40 barrels.

Second
Castro controlled with fear, how can you fear a man who suffers from
analbleeding and how old can his brother be. The regime will end
with Castro. He is an idea of fear and without him in power there
will be a huge shift.

They only way not is if brother or new
"leader" goes on a rampage but i think that would just piss more people
off then would acutally get hurt and just move up the time table for a
new system.

And I think we all miss the mob and there way of doing buissness.

Raul isn't a young guy
I believe he's in his 70's if i'm not mistaken
He's 75. Fidel is 80. That buys you zero time, if you think about it. I give communism in Cuba 15 years at most.

CUBA SI! CASTRO NO!

The entire regime seems ripe to fall soon. Fidel is crapping blood and will more than likely die. How far behind can Raul be? The time will soon be right for revolution, just as it was so many years ago.

All we can do is hope that when the time comes, U.S. policy on the matter does not shit the bed. *cough Sandanistas cough*
