That is not a news article. There is no news in it, just a bunch of investment guys saying it would be a good idea. Not one person remotely inolved is quoted as saying that anything is going on. I don't know why they write these articels.
I don't think the government cares or even has this on their radar. I believe if asked they would approve a merger (i.e. waive anti-trust rules) if it became obvious one of the companies were going to go out of business and no willing buyer came forward.

I love when stories like this are framed in terms to make it sound like a Sirius buyout of XM. Uh, dude, have you seen Sirius' financial statements? Where are they going to get the money?

I do think there's a larger question of whether or not the satellite radio market actually can support two services. I'm not as sure that it can as I used to be.

dude, have you seen Sirius' financial statements?

I am with you on this one. That's why I labeled the thread merger not takeover. Analysts appear to give Sirius the edge solely because of Mel Karmazin. I am not a believer, but if you'd asked me a year ago I would have had no question that XM would stay on top, but lately they can't seem to avoid bad news.

Won't happen Sirus effed themselves paying Stern more than most medium sized countries. XM is in decent shape because they dont have an outrages contract to pay (It's effed 89 percent of sterns fans DID NOT PAY) to follow him

So if R&F comes over to follow OnA then Stern would be equally f'd.
