I was a major Elvis fan as a kid & always kept a fondness in my heart for him, warts & all...I saw the King @ the Baltimore Civic Center in '77, the show was awful, he was fucked up beyond belief, & yet I was shocked to hear he died a month or 2 later! Anybody who votes that they dont care should be locked in a basement and forced to listen to Elvis records. Though not the first, he could be considered the original "casualty of rock n roll." Im only 26 but Elvis's music and overwhelming presence has always appealed to me. Im not at Elfish levels of fandom but he was pretty damn awesome. I also heard that he got pharmaceutical style liquid cocaine to dab on the old nostrils before shows. I like that too. Long live the King.

I was playing pool in my basement when I heard it on the radio. I thought it was a joke, at first, because the idiot dj pair I was listening to laughed about it.Later, I remember listening to Paul Harvey apologize (a little late) to Elvis. He said that when Elvis first hit the scene, Harvey said he'd never last.
