I haven't posted her very often but I've been a member for a while.

I think Ron might be back on the wagon (or very close to it).

I'm not a 'friend' of the show like a bunch of you are but if anybody sees him, tell him to take a step back from the edge; that I'm thinking about him.

j

I always forget the difference between on and off the wagon...
I haven't noticed anything recently except a couple bad days where Ron was a bit intense, but that happens to everyone. Listening to Bobo the other day made me realize how fragile life is. Trying to quit smoking right now myself, addiction is a bitch.

I don't think he fell off the wagon. He mentioned a week or so ago that he ha some shit going on at home and it seemed liked loved one bieng sick. That is enough to make anyone edgey. I also think he wouldn't flow with Bobo's story and throw jokes about Robin Williams out so easily if he were. And goddammit I hope not. With heart attack Fezzie, ESD and Earl, we stand no chance in a war with O&A (if its real) with a Disabled Ronnie

Ron has had these moments from time-to-time throughout the years. He's an intense pro who gets frustrated when the amateurs around him screw things up. Anybody remember the show in DC when he went off on Cameron after he made a comment about Fez not being there (recently after Fez's Grandma died)? Ron went crazy on-air that night. I think there may be things going on behind the scenes that we have no idea about, but its obvious that Earl's lack of enthusiasm (especially as third mic) is starting to wear him down. The supporting cast has to get their ass in gear or Bronx Johnny and Sheepy are gonna be 3rd and 4th mic before too long!

this should probably go in the "funny quote" thread which i will paste in a little later but your mention of Bronx Johnny just reminded me of a 'real good one' i heard i think the latter part of last week

Johnny went to see some singer and he was being called or calling in to report what was going on. All Bronx Johnny could say is " of dog she's hot " or " oh boss she's hot " and he said it a few times. After he hung up Ron says

" okay Johnny, thanks for the funny "

cracks me up...

Before roads were routinely paved, municipalities would dispatch horse-drawn water wagons to spray the streets in order to prevent the clouds of dust that traffic would otherwise cause. Anyone who had sworn abstinence from alcohol (and would presumably be drinking largely water from then on) was said to have "climbed aboard the water wagon," later shortened to "on the wagon."

ON THE WAGON - "The original version of this expression 'on the water wagon' or 'water cart,' which isn't heard anymore, best explains the phrase. During the late 19th century, water carts drawn by horses wet down dusty roads in the summer. At the height of the Prohibition crusade in the 1890s men who vowed to stop drinking would say that they were thirsty indeed but would rather climb aboard the water cart to get a drink than break their pledges. From this sentiment came the expression 'I'm on the water cart,' I'm trying to stop drinking, which is first recorded in, of all places, Alice Caldwell Rice's 'Mrs. Wiggs of the Cabbage Patch' (1901), where the consumptive Mr. Dick says it to old Mrs. Wiggs. The more alliterative 'wagon' soon replaced cart in the expression and it was eventually shortened to 'on the wagon.' 'Fall off the (water) wagon' made its entry into the language almost immediately after its abstinent sister." From the "Encyclopedia of Word and Phrase Origins" by Robert Hendrickson (Facts on File, New York, 1997).

Most of the time, the interns and producers aren't in the same room as R&F. They are doing many other duties, so to have a constantly open mic would be a bad thing. If you listen closely, you can sometimes hear a phone screener answering a call when Earl or Dave is talking, then you suddenly don't hear it. If they left their mics on all the time, you'd hear all of that all the time.

in addition to what papabear said, from my experience at the dc day show, all around ron and fez a bunch of other quiet conversations are taking place, ron gesturing to dave/earl, notes being passed, etc. i dunno the layout in new york, but whoever is operating the board turns the mics off when they arent in use so they can have these interactions without it going over the air.
Each person who has a mic can turn theirs off using their own cough button. I think typically, if someone wants to have a conversation with the boys, they come into the studio, but it's also possible to talk to them from behind the glass.
