Ron mentioned this show during the week. If you haven't seen it, I suggest you try to catch the first four episodes airing today from 2pm eastern on BBC America. It's a very good programme.

i liked the 1st ep alot. 12 minutes into the 2nd ep, i'm losing interest....hopefully gets better. and as we've learned thru sopranos, lost, etc...not every episode can be a gem.

altogether though, i like the idea.

here's a link to the show site:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/drama/lifeonmars/

ok..ok..i watched all 4 eps...and i like the show.

even the 2nd ep got alot better after my last post.

hey! i saw tits!! full frontal, tivo-able tits!!! nice

and annie's a hottie.

my guess is that itll all end in the style of wizard of oz, when everyone he knows in the 70's turns out to be people in his life in 2006. he DOES have memory loss, so they could even be people he knows very well, in addition to doctors and nurses that he doesnt know. my guess.

thanks to ron and (the guy who started this thread)

Your welcome! The thing I want to know what's the deal with the test pattern girl. Why is she trying to get him to give up? The new episode is on tomorrow at 10:00 ET.

The cool thing is that it's 8 episodes and out like Ronny said. That's why people in America are falling for the new cable shows that only go about ten episodes. Most shows can't sustain themselves for 20 or 22 shows a season anymore.

I got the first season, Watched the first 2 episode really liked them but there is no mystery as to where he is. He is in a coma no question.

Oh, it's creepy-riffic! It's the same gimmick as when Tony was hurt on Sopranos, but taken in an extended direction- and how unfair that he has to solve murders when he should be resting! I like any of the scenes when his internal and external worlds crisscross. Freaky.

It's also interesting for a "yank" to get to check out England in the 70's. And the music is awesome.

Oh, and note that if you have Comcast, this show is On Demand!

Love BBC America.

Miss Rusty Trombone.

Regards, Virginia

This why Ron and Fez is an amazing show. What other Radio show would steer you to a show like "Life On Mars?" I watch BBCA quite a bit but mainly for the older shows like The Avengers and The Persuaders. I would have never checked out this show without Ron's recommendation. They often get me to watch shows i'd never have thought to bother with.

Don't forget... New episode tonight at 10:00 PM Eastern.

According to IMDB they're in production for season 2 as we speak, which means it will air in England during the winter and probably show up here again in July 2007.

Last night was the 7th episode and I thought it was excellent (I liked episode 5, the soccer hooligan one the best). Next week is already the last show and it looks great. Even though they've made it obvious that he's in a coma, there has to be some reason as to why he's gone back to 1973 (and remaining a cop yet). What do you think the significance is? That still has me baffled. Is there some physical reality in his being back there even though he's in a coma in 2006? Does his false presence inthe past in any way alter or affect the kidnapping of his girlfriend in the future? According to the preview he runs into his father in the last episode. That should be interesting.

I think the British television producers are pretty smart to limit the seasons to a handful of shows. It leaves you wanting more. Our more recent cable and off-season shows have been doing it the same way and I find it better than investing time in a 20 show season which takes almost 8 months to get through. I haven't watched a network series since Seinfeld ended.

With the combination of a thread about a show called "Life on Mars", and Ron practically calling out Jerry L. last week, I'm amazed he hasn't shown back up. He must have either given up with us, or be dead. As annoying as he was, I hope it's just that he gave up on us.

Jerry... COME BACK!!! (without bad photoshops).

*edit* Now that I've typed this, I'm too lazy to remove it from here, and move it to the "Posters you wish would come back" thread.

I didn't know where to put this, so I chose here.

If you live on Long Island and get the local PBS Station (WLIW),
they will now be showing the British "Life on Mars" every Monday starting today.

I'm a little late but I just got the first season of the UK series for Christmas. I love it and so did my parents so I'm buying the second season for my mom's birthday and then stealing it from her. :)

I'm late to the Life on Mars party too--but I finally finished watching both seasons of the BBC version and it was mind-blowingly good. I hadn't heard of it until the crappy American version came out, and I watched the first few episodes of that, which almost ruined the original version for me because I kept thinking of what happened in the crummy version the first few episodes. I'm glad I stuck with it and found everything to be superior with the british version. So, so good. Sad it was only two seasons. I could have watched it forever! Loved the british Gene Hunt--he blew Harvey Keitel away.

Crippler
03-06-2010, 09:11 PM
If you just have to have more Gene Hunt, keep an eye out for Ashes to Ashes. Not sure where/if it's playing right now (I caught all of it through torrent downloads). It's not as good as the original, but you get the fun of seeing the brown Ford swapped for a stylish orange Audi Quattro & the 70s clothes traded in for the awful 80s fashions (at one point Chris gets HORRID 80s highlights). It's worth a look-see.

TheGameHHH
03-06-2010, 11:28 PM
If we sub the phrase 'Life on Mars' for 'The Office', is it similar?

Crippler
03-07-2010, 06:52 PM
No (assuming you were talking to me) it's not a bad American re-do, it's more of a sequel. The entire cast is a few years older (going from a 70s gimmick to an 80s gimmick) & the central character has changed from a goofy-looking English guy to an attractive English woman. I guess it would be closer to That 70s Show & That 80s Show if they had taken the whole original cast into the 80s & replaced the redheaded guy with a girl. Does that make sense? Probably not.
