I'm in the process of taking a data entry position for when i go back to school this September. It's a 45 minute drive but pays pretty well and i can set my own days so i'd be able to keep my shitty retail job for extra cash.

I'm 21 but still feel relatively jaded when it comes to working. I know i have enough experience and a good work ethic but this is surpassing the "job for beer and gas money" mentality that i STILL see alot of my friends holding on to.

It's either going to be really cool or suck horrible donkey ass.

My sister started a similar job a couple of months ago and she can't keep up. I've been telling her for years its time to get a career now shes trying and melting down as we speak.

usually they let you listen to ipod or whatever using headphones at data entry jobs, it can be a little tedious but easy $$

The ipod thing is important. I wouldn't have survived my first post-college job if it weren't for my Walkman.

I remember the first job I took before my first "real" job with benefits. I was hired at a tiny ad agency (from an apt in the west 50s) as a cold caller for $6.00/hour. Not bad for 1989. The ad guy (who sorta looked like Kurt Vonnegut) told me my name was too ethnic so I had to go by the name Pat Burke. I HATED cold calling companies. I had a script but I still stammered and hawed. Awful experience.

Ok, so anupdate on the job.

Basically if i want it i have it but now i've been offered a fulltime position at another company. Monday-Friday, typical 9 to 5 fashion, same pay, about the same commute only they're offering me benfits.

That job comes with a personal reccomendation but isn't 100% guaranteed to me. I would just need an interview and it would be less data entry and more customer support. The downfall is that it is set hours and i would have to change my school schedule to night classes or just not go at all and that is not something i want to do.

So, now i have a big decision in front of me and i have to have an answer by tomorrow morning.
