We moved to the south shore of LI in June. We live on a dead end street, at the end is the South Bay blocked a bit by an island. The houses on our streets have canals running in the backyards.

Jeff and I woke up on 4 hours sleep to go to a funeral this morning, then came home to a windy and slightly rainy day, but nothing horrible. We took a nap from 12-4 and I woke up to massive flooding. Luckily our house and dock is built pretty high up from the water so it didn't reach our house (like it did our neighbors). We had to move our cars up the street to where it wasn't flooded, then walk back in almost foot deep water, which is where I took most of these pictures. The wind is still gusting really strong, I'm surprised I still have power/internet:

This is our street an hour ago. At the end is the south bay.

Our neigbors dock:

Cars/street:

My front yard:

The street again

I think the wind may have pushed water from the bay into the street. 4 houses down from me is the bay, then behind my house is a water canal. I can only imagine what will happen if a real fucking hurricaine hits.

2 blocks up from is is fine. No real flooding. I moved my car up there because I didn't want it to get flooded out, so I'm basically stuck in the house unless I feel like trudging 2 blocks through the water again

Yikes, what a nightmare. Here in Jersey there's no real flooding yet but there are trees and power lines down everywhere. Most of the traffic lights are out too.

I hope the water stays away from your house and that the storm subsides soon.

On the bright side, Jeff's HHR looks cool. Does he still have Jersey plates on it though?

Hang in there!

Dude, my basement sucks SO much right now. Of course this happens the weekend I'm the only one here. Ton of boxes of God knows what are soaked, the carpet is screwed, I had to get these huge cabinets up onto pallets so they could dry off, the door frame is totalled at the bottom and I got to shove my entire arm down the drain pipe in the bottom of the stairwell behind my house to pull out what seemed like a ton of leaves and muck and who knows what the fuck else. If anyone gives me any crap at work, it shan't be pretty.

Knowing what it looks like "before"... holy shit.

Here's the weird thing... it wasn't that windy here, but for some reason, there's a ton of trees that got destroyed around here, including half a tree that broke off.

My BBQ grill also got owned, getting blown down twice.
