I came across this LINK at the Drudge Report site. It's a forty-three minute documentary. I'm not sure if it may have been discussed already on the board or if it may be brand new to some people. I just found it really interesting. I know that Ron Silver is supposed to be one of the few right wingers in Hollywood but it's still an interesting video.

I honestly don't understand what the point of this was...plenty of people in the Middle East were horrified by 9/11, and plenty thought it was something positive or has nutty conspiracy theories about it...is this really news? Who didn't know this? It's a larger scale of a dichotomy there, but you've got the same types of reactions all over the world, even here in the US.

I'm especially baffled as to why it looked like Castro was in the opening montage.

I found it interesting how Arab news organizations like Al Jazerra are reporting nutty conspiracy theories as fact, forget about even just mentioning that it was a theory among others. Bin Laden pretty much admitted he planned and carried out the attacks, but Arabs are being told on the news how the Mossad planned it all. How jews were warned ahead of time to get out of the buildings etc etc. And this is only one of the nutty comments that are apparently diseminated to the masses.

You can say what you want about CNN and FOX but no one can claim that they are spreading out and out lies to the extent of the Arab media. If the public there is being fed this crap on a daily basis, and led to believe its the truth, who can blame them for hating us.

I assume everyone who watches this wants to know the sources of it and their biases.

MEMRI

The Middle East Media Research Institute, or MEMRI for short, is a Middle East press monitoring organization located in Washington DC, with branch offices in Jerusalem, Berlin, London, and Tokyo. [No offices actually in the Middle East.] It provides translations of Arabic and Farsi media as well as original analyses of political, ideological, intellectual, social, cultural, and religious trends in the Middle East.

MEMRI was founded in 1998 by its president Yigal Carmon, a retired colonel from Israeli military intelligence, and the academic Dr. Meyrav Wurmser.

Click the links on the funders and leaders of the organization and you'll see this is a pro-Israel right-wing organization and not an objective source on the Middle East.

Ron Silver

In 2000 he cofounded the organisation One Jerusalem to defend against the Oslo Peace Agreement. Its cause is "maintaining a united Jerusalem as the undivided capital of Israel."[1]

Silver, once a Democrat, has recently been an outspoken supporter for President <a title="George W. Some of it moderate or benign. Some of their projects, however, are deliberately designed to troll the Arabic media for hateful stuff and present it as a comprehensive picture of the Arab media. It's not.

These are people who hate Arbas trying to tell you what Arabs think. It's crap.

The other thing I'll say about this subject is that the opinion of Arabs and Muslims about 9-11 today is not going to be, and cannot expect to be taken out of the context of the events of the last 5 years.
What Yerdaddy said.

What pisses me off about this Administration (one of many things) is the oft-repeated line "they hate us for our freedom/way of life!!!'

BULLSHIT. It's been stated very clearly from bin Ladin to the man in the street: they hate our carte blanche support of Israel and corrupt Arab monarchies/governments.

But my experiences and feelings are extremely complex and ambiguous, and are not a reflection of Muslims hating Americans, Christians, or the West, like these fake experts want you to believe. More than anything else, I see large similarities between American politics and ME religiosity. I still see as much hatred in American Christianity and conservatism as I do amongst the Arabs of the ME. And I'm really starting to burn out on trying to convince both sides to look at their own flaws instead of blaming the other. A nice Buddhist country is looking like a nice place to move to right now.
