<p><font size="2">I guess they are planning a big memorial service for
Steve Irwin in Australia. 5000 people in attendance, talk of
broadcasting live in Australia, the US, and Asia. <a href="http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/story/0,20867,20405086-1702,00.html" target="_blank">Read the article here.</a></font></p><p><font size="2">I always found the guy entertaining, but this seems a little overboard to me.</font></p><p><font size="2">Is there anyone in our entertainment world who would draw this kind of attention by dropping dead ? </font></p><a href="http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/story/0,20867,20405086-1702,00.html" target="_blank"></a>

<p>I think part of this is that he appealed to kids AND adults. </p><p>Another contributing factor is the manner in which he died and his age. Perhaps the numbers attending would be down if he were 83 and died in his sleep of natural causes.</p><p>We've had some "spectacle" deaths that impacted and pulled folks from all over (Elvis and Reagan are a couple), but none come to mind that were involved in television.</p><p>But that may be because David Hasselof hasn't drowned or been killed by Kitt's evil counterpart Carr.</p><p> </p>

the Austrlians hold that against him. But he's definitely got to be
