So I went out on a blind date with a gal last night. She wants to go out again, but she can't do next weekend, so she wants to go out on Wednesday. However, there's a significant problem with this date: I have been looking forward to October 4 now with baited breath for months. It might be one of the best tv nights for me for the rest of the year, and I don't have tivo or a way to record on videotape. 
1. At 7 p.m., in a rematch of last year's Eastern Conference Finals, the Sabres will be opening up the NHL season against the Carolina Hurricanes. The game will be nationally televised. Rarely does that happen where I'm able to watch the game from home. 
2. At 9 p.m., the season premiere of Lost 
3. At 10 p.m., South Park starts up again with new episodes. 
What do I do??

If you're the slightest bit interested in her, go on the date, man. By not having a way to record on a VCR, does that mean you don't have a VCR?

The TV on which I have a vcr doesn't have a cable linkup to my knowledge. I think I would have to get a splitter from another cable line and run it to where the tv is, and I kinda don't want to do that because it's not really my house. 
Should I try to set it up so I can do both? Then it would have the makings of a wacky sitcom episode.

Go on the date.Lost and South Park will be repeated (probably endlessly), and there are another 79 or so hockey games this season.Another option might be to find out if she is interested in hockey, Lost, and/or south park. If she is, the answer is obvious.To avoid this kind of issue in the future, join the 21 century and get a DVR.

You can watch Lost for free on abc.com the following day and if you search youtube you can watch the South Park episode, just don't rate it or leave a comment or they will notice that and remove it. Hockey is easy to watch if you go to a sports bar.

Sorry I can't relate at all, narc.  I can't fathom anyone having a difficult time choosing between a night with a chick or a night with TV, especially when the hockey game is the first one of the year.  There'll be 80 more regular season games.

Dude, I love hockey and I love those TV shows, but you gotta go out with the girl. You can watch highlights of the game, South Park will be repeated that night and later in the week and Lost will rerun again or you can download it.What if you don't go out with her and it turns out she shares the same interests as you and watches those shows next week with some other guy?

And for GOD'S sakes, whatever you do, don't mention that you were trying to decide between TV and her for your second date. My suggestion: Ask her where she'd like to go for dinner.  See if you can get away with an upscale sports bar.  If you're in Central Jersey, I'd suggest Chammps at Menlo Park Mall.  Northern Jersey/NY, Dave and Busters, and Long Island would be Jillians. That way you have fun things to do, and also keep up with the game. Trust me, you can DL SP and Lost later.  The game is not that big of a deal for a girl.

I disagree with these posts....DEFINITLY reschedule the date. You will resent her for making you miss the shows and you will be thinking about the shows your missing while making inane conversation over dinner.Most blind dates (even though its a second date and you like her) wont end in anything long term. There are many other nights to go out. You call her - make up a GOOD excuse and enjoy your evening. THen when you do go out with her, make it a fun night. EVERYONE wins!

What's a good excuse? 
And she's not into television, and she doesn't seem like the type who'd be into Sports. I'm going to try and schedule around it if I can, but if I can't, I'll man up and try to avoid the Lost thread here.

So what's your decision? I'm dying here! I would  have to put myself first and watch t.v. I can't change for anybody. I have 2 vcr's so I would be going on the date but if you can't make it don't stress out! She is probably having a blind date next weekend anyways.
