Allow to preface my remarks by stating that this is not a personal attack on that oversensitive tough guy we all know as Death Metal Moe. But the other day Mr B used DMM's song as a bumper to resume the show. Not knowing who the "artist" was, (no prejudice), I almost changed the channel because the sounds were so annoying and loud it kicked my blood pressure up 20 points. Just awful. Now to be fair, I am not big fan of that style, but it just seemed like someone was making a lot of noise. Am I wrong, or was this just an ear rape to the masses?

I am not a death metal afficianado. However, I enjoyed listening to the song and appreciate the musicianship and sound that these three people generate. I have a lot of respect for musicians because playing an instrument well is not an easy thing to do. Will I start listening to Death Metal exclusively? Probably not. However, every once in a while its nice to experience something different, something I would not normally listen to.

So thumbs up to Unhallowed. That's my 2 cents.

I'm going to start off pointing out that I haven't been a death metal fan since I was 13, so keep that in mind, and I am going to try to write fairly, without coming off as attacking Moe. I thought the song was so so. It was more annoying than most death metal songs, that lead guitar part or whatever that high pitched squealing noise is, needs to go, and (here comes that part that looks like a Moe attack, but I swear isn't) I thought the drums were very weak compared most other deth metal songs I've heard. But, he is a huge fan of the show, so I'm all for the guys playing his music and suporting their fans. I can always take my ear bud out for a few minutes and actually do some work.
The thing that stops me from getting into Death Metal is the vocals. I thought the song was good, but not my type of music.
Hell I think it's cool as hell that the boys support the fans that help support them. As for Unhallowed, I really can't justify critiquing a genre of music I know nothing about. From what I caught, it sounded like other death metal I've heard before minus the high pitched guitar.

The song rocked. They've definitely put together a unique sound in a genre that has been somewhat stagnant for a while. My only complaint was that the production seemed a little muddy, but that could just be Earl fucking up the equipment somehow.

Personally, the reason I don't like it is BECAUSE it's the kind of music I'm into. There's potential, but overall it far too rough around the edges. Still, beats all the club shit my girl plays around the house.
I have a boutique label with a friend and I can't tell you how
refreshing it is to hear music on the radio that hasn't been
rubberstamped by multiple corporations. I hope that some day the
buddays will feel enough good will toward me to play the music that I
work hard to present to the world. I also make my own music - mostly
goofy shit and parody songs - but my work with the label is very
serious and we are doing the best we can to share good music with the
world.

How cool is it that Ron and Fez are not only willing but eager to put out stuff by their listeners for all of America and Canada to hear? I'm sure Moe and his bandmates were thrilled to hear their music on the radio and I'm happy as hell for 'em.

I'm not much of a Death Metal fan, but I have seen Unhallowed live and they're far and away the best of that genre that I've seen. I have another buddy who plays in a Death Metal band and I had to go to a "battle of the bands" type thing to support him. There was also a warm up band the night I went to see Moe and his band, and though it's not my bag, I can honestly say Unhallowed had incredible energy, musicianship, and even melodic elements that were missing in the other bands I've seen and heard.

I can really hear the potential with Unhallowed and just listening to
the song, it seems like it would really translate well live. The
production on it was just so muffled and very hollow. I would love to
hear Scott Burns get a hold of it. It just needs that punch and violent
power that death metal truly has. The guitars need to be a bit more out
there and in your face as well.
I'm not a Death Metal fan simply because I feel that vocal style is unnecessary. However, the music was very good, and I did like the gist of the lyrics (those that I could understand). I give it almost (actually, I'd give it 1 1/2 thumbs up, but there isn't an emoticon for that).
