What would you do if you had "NOWHERE ELSE TO GO"?  COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- A man who couldn't find steady work came up with a plan to make it through the next few years until he could collect Social Security: He robbed a bank, then handed the money to a guard and waited for police.On Wednesday, Timothy J. Bowers told a judge a three-year prison sentence would suit him, and the judge obliged."At my age, the jobs available to me are minimum-wage jobs. There is age discrimination out there," Bowers, who turns 63 in a few weeks, told Judge Angela White.The judge told him: "It's unfortunate you feel this is the only way to deal with the situation."Bowers said he had been able to find only odd jobs after the drug wholesaler he made deliveries for closed in 2003. He walked to a bank and handed a teller a note demanding cash in an envelope. The teller gave him four $20 bills and pushed a silent alarm.Bowers handed the money to a security guard standing in the lobby and told him it was his day to be a hero.He pleaded guilty to robbery, and a court-ordered psychological exam found him competent."It's a pretty sad story when someone feels that's their only alternative," said defense attorney Jeremy W. Dodgion, who described Bowers as "a charming old man."Prosecutors had considered arguing against putting Bowers in prison at taxpayer expense, but they worried he would do something more reckless to be put behind bars."It's not the financial plan I would choose, but it's a financial plan," prosecutor Dan Cable said.

I've never been in jail....put plenty of people in them.....been to Bronx House of Detention, Rikers, the Tombs, etc.....kill me first before you put me in that cesspool!!!!!

My choice is not on the list. I've actually thought about this before.I would hop on a train to somewhere nice and sunny. Sure I'd still be homeless and live like they do, but at least I wouldnt die overnight from hypothermia. And like my brothah Reeshy, I've seen jail up close...close enough anyway. That is NOT an option.

Id get the job shovelling shit, and then try to make enough money so that I can get myself cleaned up and nicer clothes and try to get myself to a suburban area and try to land a legit job for a while (like a gas pumper), until I could get on my feet and into something more humane and classy.  Thats what Id do!

I see functioning homeless people on a daily basis. They don't make enough money to pay the rent, but enough money for a gym membership. (Showers and a locker.) A PO Box so you have an address. And a cell phone. They have low paying jobs, but enough for the essentials mentioned above.Sleep at the shelter, eat at the soup kitchen, and get on as best you can.

I think I'd start begging.  Get enough for a 50-60 cent suit at goodwill.  Show up at McDonalds and show them you fucking mean business.  From there its only up.   First you get the money, then you get the power, then you get the women.

I know a guy that got out of jail. Robbed a chinese take out (for $6 to
get cigerettes) so he could go back to jail. That's a lifer for you.

Homeless people get raped and beaten, too. If I was incapable of working, I'd consider the jail thing, but I'd make sure to do a crime in an area that has a not so bad jail. The jails I've been in (yes... plural) were all extremely boring, but quite safe.BTW... Not only have I been in jail, I've been homeless. (And no. I wasn't raped or beaten in either case).

See you go to jail because you did a crime and now you have to pay your debt to society with time, not with getting raped. I never understood how rape was so rapid in prison. Plus its another crime. The whole jail/correction system is garbage. When people go to jail they come out worse and with more knowledge how to comit crimes. Plus after being in jail the only jobs you will get are shitty anyway. They really need to to redo the whole fucking system.

They really need to to redo the whole fucking system.   In my experience with the criminal justice system, which while not extensive, is probably more than most people here, they don't send first timers to jail anyway. You really kind of have to be a bad guy for awhile to get sent there. So you don't really have to worry about people learning anything new, unless the person has done something real serious, in which case they're not getting out anyway. So the super recidivists that we put there are basically there just to get them out of society. I hear the stats of getting raped vary from facility to facility, and you mostly have to worry about it if you're in a supermax facility, and even then, it's incidence has been overblown by things like Oz. It definitely happens, but it's not pervasive. A lot of times, it's actually consensual. Like in Midnight Express, in the real life story, that guy was never raped. He just took it up the ass a lot because he wanted to.

Who the hell would want to rape Tippy Toms Unwiped, dingleberry filled, rashy ass?I wouldn't care if I was in the can for 20 years.  If I was gonna rape some jailhouse ass, he would have to shave all over and take hormones like John Karr to grow some little tities to suck on.
