When I lived there, we got to miss school for a tsunami warning that never materialized. I did get to experience a 5.1 quake when I lived in Japan. Enough to wake me and my family out of bed. No, I'm not Asian. Hope everyone is ok.

When I was going to school in Madison, I was sleeping and I got felt this weird feeling and I woke up in the middle of the night. I was told it was an earthquake eminating out of St. northern Illinois. I'm not saying I know what you guys are going through, but it was a pretty scary moment of my life.

In the category of old, but related news, there was a 6.0 earthquake about a month ago centered 250 miles WSW of Pinellas Park (Tampa area). Supposedly it was felt here and Jacksonville, as well as areas much further away. I didn't feel anything.

http://www.observernews.net/artman/publish/article_001726.shtml

I did try to hit two websites out of Ko'olu (around Oahu), but neither site was working. One of them is my ex's father's business. As far as I know, he's still in business, but his website isn't working. Neither is one that I believe to be a tourist website.

it's the biggest quake since '83 roads and power are out in Kona

That might explain the websites not working.

My cousin live on Oahu. He told me he lost power for about 6 hours. He had to miss the football games (He gets up at 7 am to catch the Giants games live). It was at 7 am when it hit.

The Big island was the one that got the most damage. They are checking not only for tsunami's but also for volcanic activity.

Must be on pins and needles there.
