Lately I've been having trouble acessing the Internet. I'll get on and within a few minutes I've lost my connection. I called Comcast and they told me to unplug my modem, wait 30 seconds, and plug it back in. That works, but I'm still losing my connection and I'm under my desk unplugging my modem 3 or 4 times within 10 minutes. (One good thing, I found a pair of sunglasses I lost). The signal from Comcast is good. I do remember a thread Gvac started about problems with Firefox. Could that be it?
in the buidling stealing cable makeing the signal weaker for the wires
in the building you may need a simple booster thngy

unplug anf
plug back in is not a acceptable work around a problem they make these
stupid modems for cheap and then the parts in the mbreak and then they

Maybe you need new ethernet cables.

maybe the splitter if you have one. cable coming in, one cable to the pc and one to the tv? you wouldn't think they could just go bad but i've experienced it and replacing one has actually fixed a signaling problem...

Try new ethernet cables (the blue ones). If that doesnt work and you have a router, your router may be bad. I have a Linksys router and had that problem. I had to get a new one and and then call their tech support, which did help, but was very frustrating, but now everythings fine. Hope that helps!

Is there a modem?

Yes, there is a modem. And I've unplugged and plugged it back in it at least a dozen times in the past hour.
Is there an area on back with a button or a tiny hole that says Reset? What brand of modem is it?

I've already tried reseting it. It didn't work. I don't know what brand it is. Doesn't say.

It sounds like you're using Firefox. What happens when you switch to IE?

I'll give IE a try.

Check all the connections for your cable modem. Occasionally, connections will loosen, or even be disconnected during cleaning or some other activity, and will not be reconnected. Check the coaxial cable connection coming from the wall, as well as the coaxial cable connection to the back of the cable modem. Also, check the Ethernet cable (looks very similar to a phone line) and make sure it is securely connected in the back of the cable modem and the computer. If it is not, unplug it from both the modem, and the computer, and replug it back in securely.

Reboot the cable modem. To do this, unplug the modem's power cord from the wall outlet, and wait 1 - 2 minutes. After this time, replug the modem back in.

If the above does not remedy the situation, please contact Technical Support for further assistance.

I had the exact same problem with Comcast last Wed. through Sat. I did everything they told me and nothing worked. I even went into control panel and repaired the connection. It still would cut out. The I woke up Sunday and everything was fine. Perhaps Comcast is screwing with their customers?

My comcast service has been really patchy lately here in West Michigan. I started having problems when they switched the channel lineup, to make room for more HD channels. They won't admit that's the problem. I exchanged my modem for a new one, which you can do at any time, if you're renting the comcast modem. I had to run a line just for the cable modem, and another line to split to the tvs, that seemed to fix my problem.

Comcast has been having problems in NJ lately.

http://www.dslreports.com/comment/1579/58278

http://www.dslreports.com/reviews/1579

from the command line, you can type "ping www.yahoo.com -t" to see if you are losing packets, which would mean that your signal is going in and out.

You press Ctrl+C to get out of the ping.

A good thing to do would be, if you could, to get your hands on another computer (maybe a friend's laptop) and see if that computer gets a good signal on your connection.

I ran Spybot for the hell of it and that seemed to help. Then when I encountered the problem again, I temporarily disabled my anti-virus software (AVG Free). I reactivated it and I haven't had a problem with accessing the Internet in several hours (far cry from when I was only able to be on the Internet for a few minutes at a time).

Using IE over Firefox didn't seem to make a difference.
