I don't think Virginia keeps track of which party you affiliate yourself with. When I voted in the last primary, I had to decide which one I wanted to vote in.
Because the Republicans literally dont even bother to run a candidate in many races, there's really no point to being one.
I just registered about half a month ago and i put "other" for lack of knowledge about anything political. I don't think i can vote locally without choosing a definite party though but i'm not certain because i dont follow this stuff.

Which leads me to ask if there are(and im sure there are, which ones?)any books that i could read to gain as much information as possible without making my head spin. Politics don't really interest me so it might need to be a "...for dummies" type deal. I just want the basic knowledge without bias(impossible?) so by the next election im not voting blindly.

Weird story.

When I registered as a young man, it was as an independent. I was never invited to a primary from either party. Then out of nowhere this year I got a letter inviting me to the Republican primary. Shortly after that, I got one asking for a donation to that same party that I've "always been supportive of". I looked into it, and found that despite no activity on my my part to get it going, I am now a registered Republican in NY State. If I wasn't lazy as hell, I'd probably get myself out of the Bad Boy Club, but alas my tendency for procrastination still has me a card carrying member of Team Conservative.

In Virginia, you don't register under a party. I think you have the option to, but I didn't. I think the way it works is, if you vote in one party's primary, you can't vote in the other.
