I noticed along the waterline of my aquatic frog tank this line of white granular material. Upon closer examination, I noticed it was a mass of rapidly moving semi microorganisms and figured they are protozoa. I have been meaning to clean the tank for a while, and now, this colony seems to have established itself. I put some Aquarisol in the water last night and some more this morning, and checked it when I got home and they are still there. I am pretty sure they are parameciums.
I intend to take out the water and then dump it down my bathtub as usual, and then wash the tub, and clean all the stuff from inside the tank. But Id like to kill all the parameciums before I dump the water, because I am afraid some might live somehow. How do you kill them without killing the frogs? Help!

I would try to avoid harsh chemicals that may kill your frogs when you put them back in the tank. I would suggest taking your frogs out and trying white vinegar to clean the tank. It's non toxic. Not sure if it will work though. Good luck.

The plural of paramecium is actually paramecia.
I usually use a 12 gauge with bird shot, but you have to have a license to kill them. And the state only allows you to kill 6 paramecia a week, so you really have your work cut out for you.

I think the plural of paramecium is paramecia, not parameciums. If anybody cares.

I would call a fish store and ask but if you google it i would say vinegar is right. It looks like acid kills them. You should buy new gravel and rocks, plants and use ultraviolet lighting.

I'D say put the frogs up for adoption and get rid of the tank. you didnt do a good job the first time so i'd say just give up.
