View Full Version : I need a new Synth/Keyboard

My Roland S-50 needs to be buried in the backyard. Only a couple keys left and it's very crackley.

I'd like to get a new or used keyboard for $300 to 500. I like good piano and string sounds...but also like the kooky outer spacey and synth noises...

I don't understand sequencing or midi, so those things aren't too important.

Any ideas?

Try Alesis. Singer in my band has one. I have no idea what model or how much he paid for it, but he gets great sounds out of it, both basic piano/organ and weird synth sounds.

Bobo, next time show a Mellotron. Now that was a nightmare of a keyboard.

And the S-50 is pretty old too!

For your price range, check out the Korg X5D, its got 61 unweighted keys [like the S-50, I believe].

Havent played it myself, but Korg has always put out good stuff, and reading the specs, might be what you're looking for. It's not a Triton or Roland X-6/7/8 or Yamaha Motif, but those are not cheap.

Link Here

Thanks Mike...my price range shifted. I'll check the link. I
listened to your stuff a while back...very cool sci-fi ambient.

Triton Le shoots to the top...with the harmonium and mellotron closing in fast...

No problem I'm a synth-nerd, the worst of all music nerds. Make guitar-nerds pale by comparison.

The Triton LE, and the whole Triton series, just rock. The LE has the exact same engine as the most expensive Triton, it just lacks the touch screen capability, and some of the bells and whistles that 99% of peeps never touch. For a gigging board it's great, gives you great Pianos, Organs, Strings, and it got gobs of Synth Leads, World Sounds, Drums, Orchestrals, Splits to solo over...

Some of the Triton sequences/patches are so popular you'll play one and say, 'isnt that the exact sound used it that song by...'

I've owned em and loved em.

Korg's Site has all the info, you can even download sound samples and the owners manuals.

Korg Triton LE

It's a little jack-off fruity with the back panel bellows...but I listened a couple times and started liking it. I don't think I want one unless it comes with a monkey, but I am glad to have heard and seen it in action.

Ty!
