Apparently XM (and Sirius) may be in some trouble with the FCC regarding power levels, location, and registration of their terrestrial repeaters. My signal at home relies on the terrestrial repeaters so I hope this isnt bad news for us land lubbers..

Business Week Article

It was my understanding that this is about the radios with radio transmitters, not the repeaters. I know that's what NPR was bitching about. Most NPR stations are on the low end of the dial, and those are the frequencies that most people use for their transmitters. Some of the XM and Sirius units have transmitters that are too powerful.

*edit* Now I see it. It was all the way at the bottom of the article.

There are several complaints, and several possible outcomes. Take the NAB claim, supported by XM and Sirius' own filings, that some of the satellite companies' terrestrial repeaters (devices that receive signals and retransmit them), installed on buildings and towers to ensure seamless satellite radio coverage, don't comply with FCC rules
