Ron is always using this phrase as some sort of insult. I must admit it's usage is lost on me.
It just means an average joe. Wake up every morning, eat ham n eggs. Same as a straphanger.
I had a feeling that's what it meant, thanks.
On a completely unrelated note, my favorite breakfast sandwich is scrambled eggs and ham on a roll. I like the ham on there cold, though. Most delis look at me like I have three heads when I order it.
The first place I heard it used was but Bobby "The Brain" Heenan. He would use it, generally, when describing a subpar wrestler or some hick in the audience. From what I understand, and I think I read this in one of his two books, the phrase spawned from the fact that ham and eggs was basically on every menu and therefore the easiest and least brain taxing thing to order.

origins, i dunno.

but what it means: i gotcha.

it does mean "everyday joe", or "regular average guy"...but when a comic uses it it is a slightly derogatory term. it means you are a "norm", or "square", and not on a par with comics. kinda means "not with it".

Back when wrestling was real (the age of stretchers, not WWE sports entertainment) winners of matches were given a monetary purse as payment, and losers were given a ham & egg breakfast the morning after the match for their effort. The name for the person who enjoyed this "consolation prize" is synonymous with "loser".
