View Full Version : Comedy Pyramids RIP?

I've been a fan since WNEW (early 2001), always a lurker here, but never joined.

Yesterday, someone called in asking about comedy pyramids. Actually, he ripped ESD and complained about the lack of comedy pyramids.

Ron said they dont do them anymore because of "hayseeds"

Being someone who loved comedy pyramids and always looked forward to (and contributed to) them. They were probably my favorite part of the show (in all its timeslots and incarnations).

Granted, XM reaches the less "cosmopolitan" areas of the country, but not all old callers to a CP were stellar. The caller made a good point, however. Since ESD joined the team, I cant remember even half a dozen comedy pyramids. "Post hoc ergo propter hoc" is a fallacy in reasoning, but it does seem like since the phones have been fixed and ESD came around, there have been virtually no comedy pyramids.

Does anyone know if there is a correlation? Or if CPs can make a comeback?

Thanks

P.S. No Im not an ESD hater. I wish him no ill will. I may think he is unfunny and his schtick seems forced, but I dont care enough about him to hate him.

P.P.S. Unless his appearance somehow contributed to the demise of comedy pyramids, then I will hate him with a passion hotter than the fire of a 1000 suns.

I can't think of any correlation between ESD being around and comedy pyramids. The fact is that R&F have done a lot less comedy pyramids since coming to XM. I think there are a number of reasons for this, including the fact that the phones didn't work at first, so they didn't catch on that well, and the fact that the call-ins haven't been as good as they were at JFK or NEW.

Plus, R&F go through phases where they let a bit rest for awhile. I remember back when R&F were at JFK, there was a period where they didn't have any pyramids. I remember missing them at the time, but they eventually reappeared.

So, I can think of a number of reasons why comedy pyramids have been a little rare, and none of them have to do with ESD.

They did one a few weeks ago but haven't since. It is a good bit and i wouldn't mind seeing it return once or twice a week.
Ron was responding to one of the Dave haters that called in - I would be surpised if it was gone for good.

That's not to say that he is the reason one way or the other. The phone system sucked for the first six months so the pyramids were impossible.

Once they had a couple successful pyramids, they started noting that there were a lot of hayseeds calling in and trying to help build the pyramids. They just didn't get it.

I think that is the reason they are putting the comedy pyramids on vacation for a while.

The best was a few months ago when a pyramid was going really good and Ron said as the calls got worse "and now the red states are getting involved"

Not everyone living in the country is a hay seed. I think there are fewer pyramids because that is usually something that Fez gets started. And this week is Weak Week.
