thanks for throwing a great party. way too crowded inside but my strategy of grab a drink, down it and then hang outside for 20 minutes worked out pretty well. good to see those of you ive met before and great to meet more of you. i wish i knew what more people looked like, there are so many of you that were there and after a few drinks i had no idea who i was talking to..

I haven't read this thread yet, I apologize, but I just want to reiterate what I posted in another thread[quote]I'm posting this here.  I'm a lil behind on the board reading because of the wedding I was at today... I do not blame Opie or anyone for anything that happened.  This is the series of events:1) We plan big party starting in October.2) Ron and Fez mention it on air in November3) A week or two later, O&A announce the Homeless Shopping Spree on the exact same day.4) Thursday, I get a call saying O&A would like to be added to the guest list and have an area with a table they can hang at, eat/drink/whatever.  I am told it will be 8 people.  We just think it would be a cool surprise for anyone who shows up.5) Saturday comes and we know people are caravaning from the HSS, travelling from long distances just for the party, etc.  We knew this was happenning, the bar knew it was happenning, we were prepared.6) 5:30pm while talking to Fez on air, Opie gets plugs for the bar and says he's coming.  Now we know it's going to turn into a mad house.  I talk to the managers at the bar, we discuss about possibly recommending the bar next door for overflow and other contingencies.7) We get overcrowded and people have to wait to come in.  Whenever any board member has trouble getting in, I personally went out and brought them in.  Anyone who I got past the line can tell you.  If I didn't help you, I'm sorry, it was nothing personal.8) The "VIP area" was always meant to be the length of the windows over there.  It was meant to be R&F show staff, O&A show staff, and RF.Net staff.  Not friends of shows, not friends of friends, not the sheer numbers who did come over.  Just a place where show people could sit for a few and breathe.As for the group who were sitting at the table, the plan was to let everyone eat who was at those tables.  When they were done eating, we were going to co-opt the area, but they finished eating, paid their tab, and then were sitting and milking their drinks, and other friends were joining them.  We were waiting on them before we could spread the area and do things like run the drinking contest.  No disrespect was intended to anyone, but it was just how we had planned.9) I tried to clear out the area after the drinking contest, but unfortunately, I was the only one doing it.  I would clear people away, then go out to get some air or get a drink and it would fill up again.  I just gave up because I was essentially doing everything myself.  I took care of VIP shit, I ran the drinking contest, I took care of swag, etc.  t was alot of work and I could only take so much. Thank you everyone who came out.  We learn from every party we hold, and we just get bigger with each one.  If you had any problems last night, please PM or IM me, I really am interested in your opinions and experiences from last night for future reference. We are already trying to find bigger locations for next year and are thinking of better ways to manage "VIP" bullshit.We are also restarting our smaller non-radio parties.  Just a small group where people can get to know other board members at a smaller place where we can just chill and will not be "radio events."   The return of RF.Net karaoke, bar nights, etc.  Although I'll be part of the NY ones, I'd be more than happy to see other ones starting up too, like in the DC area, so people can get to know more regional R&F fans.If you have any other ideas, you're more than welcome to contact me and let me know.  We like to think RF.Net is like a family and want to keep that family atmosphere.  I apologize if anyone felt crowded, alienated, thirsty from an inability to get to the bar, but we really are working to make things better for

I'm very glad JustJon and mikeyboy stepped up and posted their sides of the story concerning the whole evening.  As I stated several times already, I salute you guys for all the work you do putting these things together.  My only suggestion for the whole "VIP bullshit" (as Jon so eloquently put it) is to simply inform anyone who would like to attend that under no circumstances will there be a VIP area.  Any attempt to create one simply will not be tolerated.  And anyone who would like to come and hang out with the people who pay their salaries and contribute to their show are more than welcome to do so, as long as they don't mind being sullied by possibly rubbing up against a lowly commoner.

Hey all! It was great meeting those of you who I did, and I wish that I could have
met more of you. But, I was a bit intimidated by the crowd. Mikeyboy, thanks for
getting me in as a write-in on the chugging contest. I certainly paid for the
evening, though, on the flight home. Being hungover on a plane is about the
worst feeling in the world. But, it was worth it.

Here's hoping that I'll meet you all again, but the odds of that are pretty low.
Anytime anyone ends up in Chicago, drop me a line. I owe many of you a night

Wow....now that my day is over and I have fully recovered from this whole weekend, I would like to say I had a good time at the party.YES it was crowded.YES it was hot.Yes...it was fun!With the crowd we had maybe it is a good idea to re-consider using Dave and Busters again?? I got there pretty late, as I was party hopping... but it was great to see some old friends and catch up just a bit.  I do wish the atmosphere was not quite so chaotic ... but more low key, as board events usually are.  But all in all it was a nice distraction... and I do look forward to the next event - especially if it is taking place in dirty jersey... wheeeShirley Temples for all!

Had a blast, as always. Traveled up with Bobo and Tom the Cop from DC & Baltimore - got there about 7:45 pm and sat with Jon, Mikey, Fluff, Snoogans, Missy, Jeff, ESD, Johnny, Pitz, Pantera, Funk and several others than came in early to eat. I already knew the party was going to bigger than last year's because of how popular the show has become, but when I heard O&A were going to post I knew it was going to be nuts. So, whenever Ron and his wife showed up, Bobo wanted to be sure to get them their gift/painting early, before it got too packed, and we dashed outside to get them, and I don't think either of us saw the inside of Calico Jacks again to well after midnight, so I thankfully missed all of the inside drama (with the exception of asking Johnny, Fluff and Snoogans to remove their hats, which was total bullshit). I guess the obvious presence of other websites there didn't bug me too much because it was pretty much as I expected - I certainly fall into the trap myself of taking from time to time of trying to document events, but I also get that there are times to just leave your camera at home and try to enjoy a moment for what it is. Thank god the weather was so nice, because the smoking section outside home until about 3am when we finally decided to leave. It was great to actually have a conversations with people. Ron and Fez and all the buddies made the trip worth while. Cool to see Kathleen & BriBri, Mike from Brooklyn and his wife, Earl, Silera, Alkie, Effme, Sheepy, Spoon, Radio Shark, Stugots & his wife, GVAC, Unknown PD, Hawk, French Bread, Keisha, Al Dukes, Too Cute, Hosp and just oodles and oodles of others. We kept saying it went by too fast.

I think things went pretty well as far as I could see.  I saw a little drama, but none of it affected me which is all I care about.  I had quite a good time good meeting all the folks I met, and some of the people I met prior.  I just feel bad for the people that didn’t get to see my sneakers.   What I learned from the evening is that funk couldn’t be nicer, but needs a new camera, jon hates boys, effme loves to elbow people I bring to the party in the head, and looks good with her new hair, as does gwen (although i didn't reckognize her when she came in, sorry). Regina is way to good for stu.  Snoogans needs to put on a hat. And because of sheepy I need to look for a new girlfriend.

I got a chance to have a nice conversation with Master Po yesterday so ofcourse IHAD to ask him about being a dick on Saturday night.He said that it WASN'T Opie that told him to make a VIP section and be a jerk yelling at everyone. He wasn't "on duty" and the management of Calico Jack's and the Hosts of the party asked him to clear the VIP area. He had no list and no help, so he did the best he could.He actually is a cool guy, very funny and charming. Pluse he kinda liked that I rubbed up against him when I got a picture with him.He's all right in my book.

mikeyboy wrote: First off, I want to apologize to anyone who had a difficult time.  We got way, way more people than we were expecting so the place was packed to the rafters.  The sheer number of people outside in the "smoking section" was a testament to the number of people who were there.Some people seem ready to blame Opie, but I really don't think he was the cause of any of the problems.  To the best of my knowledge, this is the sequence of events.  Jon can correct me if I have anything wrong.A couple of days before the party, East Side Dave asked Jon and me if they could reserve a table near the window for members of the Ron & Fez and Opie & Anthony shows to sit, eat, and leave bags, etc.  We accomodated.  That table and area in the corner was in use long before Opie showed up for just those purposes.  Opie showed up and went to that area, and to the best of my knowledge, the only thing that changed was that Master Po started keeping an eye on that area.  His job is security for O&A, and O&A have a pretty rabid fanbase, so he was just doing his job.  Master Po, probably by his own admission, is pretty no-nonsense and and intense guy when he does his job which can rub some people the wrong way, but I don't know of any issues at that point.At around 11:00, we decided to hold the chugging contest.  There wasn't a spare inch to use at that point, so we decided to expand the area reserved for the two shows.  It had never been our intention to inconvenience the people at tables in those areas.  We had thought that Calico Jack's would start pulling up those tables as people finished eating and it got more crowded.  So anyway, it came time to expand the area, so it was roped off at that point.  People at tables were moved and some people were moved out of or denied entrance to the roped off area.  Some tempers flared and there were some hurt feelings, and for that, as one of the people heading up this event, I apologize.  We'll need a better way to handle that next time.As far as I can tell, Opie didn't do anything other than show up to an event he was invited to and hang out the table reserved for him.  There was no ordering to have people thrown out.  There were no demands for a VIP area.  My only issue was with people who weren't a part of either show who felt entitled to be in what sadly became a VIP area.  It just made it harder to run the contest, and really created  the perception that there was an elite class of people at the event behind the velvet rope.  Ronfez.net events have never been like that, and it makes me sad that it appeared this way to others.  After the contest, the roped off area became so crowded that I had to get outside and hang with the smokers.  Maybe we should taken down the ropes at that point and decontstructed the "VIP Area" at that point, but the damage was done and it was kind of a clusterfuck at that point.So anyway, it was our event, and in some respects I couldn't be happier.  In other respects, we could have handled things better, and I think we've learned some lessons.  To everyone, we're glad you came.  To those who had a good time, I'm glad. To those who didn't, we've learned a lot about planning an event of this size and can promise to rectify the problems this go round.Sorry to get the downer post out of the way first.  I actually had a great time, so my next post on the party will be a positive one.mikey i completely agree with you, i got my picture taken with opie and at one point i was in the "VIP area" dont ask me how i did it...but i had a blast and it was great to meet you and i hope to be at more of the partys...

Here is one thing I witnessed as I tried to get outside.A guy came to the door and told the bouncer he knew Bronx Johnny.  The bouncer said Who?  "Bronx Johnny.  I'm his friend, I was told to just mention him and I'll get in."The bouncer said he had no idea who he was talking about and asked for ID.  The guy just got on his phone and tried to get in but he pushed him out.Ha Ha.

Can't say I had a great time...I'll just leave it at okay. As always it was great to see those that I did but sadly those that I didn't see far outweigh the other hand. Truthfully once I foolishly bought a bracelet and then got inside I realized most of my time would be spent trying to make eye contact with the bartenders just to make myself feel better about shelling out the money. Either way though, it's always good to see Ron and Fez esp. since my job cock blocks me from ever getting to see them. A bar night in Hoboken sounds awesome esp. since it's so damn close to me. Hopefully I'll get to see all the buddays I missed and maybe I won't even have to lose my voice at the end of the night.

wow, this thread reads almost like a listening thread to a drinking show that involves esd and billy staples, al dukes and some nazis.  i so wish i had been there :(i will say, and take this for what it is worth coming from the source, in orlando florida the mosters in the morning radio show does listener events all the time and they are in places that accomodate as many as arrive.  they did a holloween gig this year and basicaly reserved "old town" which is a county-fair type place on i-drive (disney area) that has hotels, rides, bars, tatoos, midget wrestling, $35 hotel rooms, etc.  they more or less over-book their gigs so that they have room to breathe.  it makes it feel intimate (even when their are 3000 drunk maniacs taking off their clothes)  they do an annual carribeab cruise with the fans too that sounds fun.i think, from what i have read, the problem was based on size of venue versus turnout to the event.  not to blame. not to blame.  i have had to plan events for 1000s when i worked for university in NY.  it is never an exat science and i guess the lesson i have learned is: plan for more... enjoy the left-overs.I am making arrangements for next years party (unless their is another good one coming up sooner) so that i can meet r&f and all of their fans.  i am glad that you all had fun and fezzie made it back from the mall ok. <img src="/messageboard/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/smile.gif" border="0" alt="Smile" title="Smile" width="20" height="20" />

Okay so I'm a lil late to reply, but better late than never I guess.  It was awesome to see everyone again, a TON of old schoolers there which was really nice.  Nice to meet some new people (though I think that would only be limited to Regina and Marc with a C's chick, both of whom I echo boobsie's comments about)Jon and Mikeyboy did a great job, I don't think there was any way to account for that many bloody people showing up and yes, it was hard to get a drink and yes it was hard to move, but that's why you use the Marc with a C system: send one guy to the bar to order, and then they point to whomever they're ordering for and you show your bracelet.  Worked decently enough for our lil area.   The manpiece, who I see Matty has affectionately dubbed "Mr. Gwen" has even mentioned he might like to join the board.  He had a blast with all of you guys and he was a lil starstruck when Ronnie came up to him and congratulated him on the engagement. I hope we can continue to have everyone get together like this, you're all a blast.   Much heartage! Petrina: if you were there and I missed you I am incredibly le sad.

A little late here  but I had a real good time on Saturday night.  I was great to see a lot of the old timers and meet some new people.   How the crowds have grown!  Jon and Mikey  did a wonderful job in getting it  all going and even with some slight problems overall I think it went fairly well.    It is hard to plan and control a gathering of that size  with alcohol and all the consumption that took place.    The Reef is expanding !!!!!
