in august i bought new tires for my car from mavis discount tires, this particular one was in Rockville Center. anyway i bought the tires and just by chance i happened to pick up the warranty as well. last night a nail ravaged my front driver side tire and now i have two holes in the tire thats how big the nail is. anyway i looked all over my house last night and i couldnt find my reciept. but i did find the credit card bill that has the purchase on it. so i take that and go back to mavis this morning. i tell the clerk my problem and i ask him if the information would be in his computer. he says sure, so he takes my info what do you know im not in there. not by my license plate, not by name or number nothing. now i remember staring at the bill in August and saying to myself that they have my license plate wrong but im far too lazy to actually go back and ask them to change it, besides i thought whats the big deal. see this is the big deal.

the clerk at the store remembers me. i mean he remembered that i wore my reggie white jersey, which i wore this morning as well just for this purpose. he remembers me mentioning that reggie is my favorite football player ever, he remembers that i got my tires done the day they played the hall of fame game in preseason, but he says unless theres a paper trail theres nothing he can do.

so now what can i do? do i shell out close to 150 for all the charges that are included in this or is there some way around it?

You have to go to the store manager, at the very least. You already shelled out the money for the road hazard/warranty. The fact that they screwed up and lost your record is bizarre, since they usually take your car and personal info. The odds of them screwing both things up is remote.

If they remember the day you were there, can they search the sales records for that day to see if they can find your info?

All tires have number on them that is supposed to be recorded by the shop and kept on record. It's Federal law.

I would talk to the manager. If the manager doesn't want to help, call your credit card company and have them reverse the charges for the tires, saying that they will not honor the warranty. You'll money will be refunded. Most of the times when there is a credit card dispute, the company is forced to reverse the charges, because the credit card companies bully them around.

They should also be able to find you in the system by name and address or phone number as well. Had a similar issue with Mavis, until I realized that they had mispelled my last name. Fortunately, it is a common error, so I knew to tell them to try it the mispelled way.
