<h1><a href="http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_article_id=416003&in_page_id=1770" target="_self">Outrage as Church backs calls for severely disabled babies to be killed at birth</a></h1><p>The Church of England has broken with tradition dogma by calling for doctors to be allowed to let sick newborn babies die. </p><p>Christians have long argued that life should preserved at all costs - but a bishop representing the national church has now sparked controversy by arguing that there are occasions when it is compassionate to leave a severely disabled child to die. </p><p align="center"><strong>*****</strong></p><p><font size="2">To let you know my background: I was raised Roman Caholic in a strict Italian home so you can imagine how screwed up I am. I married my wife who is Episcolpalian, which is apparently the American offshoot of the Church of England. This has in effect made me Episcopalian too. </font></p><p><font size="2">If it were up to me, I'd never set foot in a church again, but my wife drags me for the sake of the kids so they can have some moral compass until they're old enough to realize it's all bullshit too.</font></p><p><font size="2">You can imagine the culture shock for a Catholic in an Episcopal church. Everything's all loosy-goosy and it seems like anything goes. The minister that baptized my son is Mark Lewis. Maybe you recognize the name: he was the plaintiff in the case just decided by the NJ Supreme Court allowing gay marriage. We always thought something was up because he refused to live in the house adjacent to the church and instead rented an apatment with his "friend". The church doesn't seem to have an issue with this which I think is pretty cool.</font></p><p><font size="2">I consider myself socially liberal minded and, though I personally detest abortion, I am pro-choice because I wouldn't care to impose my values on someone else. While I also come down in favor of euthenasia (As my "When would you want to die?" thread attests), I think this is a bit much for a church to take this kind of stand.</font></p>
