Hey I love the buddays but when they're I'm at school, so is there any software I can record them on and listen later on in my day. I don't have an XM radio, I listen to them over the internet. I'm spending my dough and I'm missing too many shows, help a fellow budday out!

Good olde Total Recorder. I'm sure there are others but that's what I use.

audacity can record the show, but I don't have it worked out yet (I'd like to figure out how to set it like a tivo to get the whole show while I'm at work) so I won't post any links or anything until I've got it all figured out.

DISCLAIMER: I am recording the show for private personal use. XM frowns on sharing their programming for free

I use Total Recorder for scheduled recordings from either an external source (MyFi etc) and recording internet streams (XM for example). Total Recorder has a demo version that does some recording but to be really useful, you will need to pay $20-$30.

Audacity is a freeware program but it doesn't allow scheduled recording or recording streams (at least I haven't figured how).

You're right. Audacity doesn't allow for timed recordings. Total Recorder works great, and it's only $17.95. You can download the free trial, to decide if you want to buy it. The trial version adds white noise every 60 seconds, but other than that, it shows you what you'll get for the 18 bucks.

http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/features-1.3-k.php

In the new beta of Audacity they allow timed recordings. I'm going to download it now and give it a shot for tonight's replay and see how it worked when I get up tomorrow morning

I use Replay Radio -

It allows you to search for shows, download podcasts, and schedule XM radio ONLINE recordings -

However it doesn't work on all PCS - I can only get it to work on one of 3 computers at home -

but when it works, it works GREAT!!!! make sure you try the demo!!!

JayT

http://www.jaytonline.com

so far audacity is cake, but for some reason everything I record is being played back slightly slower making everyone sound drunk. I really can't figure out why.

yeah, I know. The only solution I can think of at the moment is to speed everything up once it's recorded by 8%. It sounds right on the money, but I have no idea why I should have to do that

http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php?title=Identifying_Problems

according to the wiki it's the same reason why I can't play half life 2 on my PC... stupid integrated soundcard. Oh well... I'll just speed the boys up once they are recorded.

I can't figure this shit out yet... I have no idea why this feels like rocket science.

I figured it would just be a "start at this time... end at this time" thing... I guess it's on a delay?

I have used Total Recorder for about three years and have loved it! The setup is a bit convoluted, but once you get it set to your ideal standards it's great. I paid 29.95 for it 3 years ago and have gotten regular updates for free ever since. Every time they update the program they always improve it for the user. I record tons of streaming content with it. I also use it to convert some of the new dedicated audio file types to mp3 and edit the shows at the time. It's great for audio editing. I recommend it highly.
just "mono-out" while I'm playing mp3 audio. I figured out the speed thing... I just needed to change the sample rate to 48800 instead of 44100

Run the program, on the top menu click on file, then preferences, then quality.

It is the top box.

OK, here's my lil tutorial on how to record using audacity 1.3 and up:

Step 1: select Timer Record

Step 2: Set the time to record

Step 3: Audacity will open a window with a countdown until record

Step 4: When recording time comes, the window will change with a countdown until completion and you'll have a visual representation of the track up top

OK, I changed the recording to "Wave Out Mix" I am guessing that's stero as opposed to "mono out"

Can you use Audacity to record the internet stream show?
FuckinStarvin wrote:
Can you use Audacity to record the internet stream show?

Yes. You just select which source comes from (wave, mic, line in...). You would choose "wave" to record the stream. Be careful, if you have any other programs running, that have sound (such as AIM). Those sounds will also end up on the recording.

Thanks for the reply Papa, but the only options I have are Line Input or Microphone. I tried Edit > Preferences but under recording I get 3 options none of them Wave. Im using version 1.3.2 Beta.

Did you open the recording settings directly from your computer's sound device, and not Audacity? That's how it needs to be done. The steps to do this depend on your particular sound card. Looking at mine, it doesn't say "wave". I was thinking of my old computer. Mine now has the option for "what you hear".

That's about the best I can do for you, because I've got a cluster fuck of devices on my current computer. I got it all working, but I'm not sure how I did it.

once I got the recording speed down and set the timer everything went perfectly.

I am compressing the data into mp3 as we speak and should have a good feel for how this all worked out. It's even easy with this software to SEE the commercials (aka THE ONLY COMMERCIAL BREAK OF THE DAY YESTERDAY) and edit them right out.

I think this is great, but I don't have the drive space to record more than like... 5 hours of raw data... I'm looking forward to seeing how much space the mp3 takes up. I'm going to have to start making a collection of ron and fez mp3 CDs for the mp3 CD player in my pickup.

about 145meg for a 2.5 hour show. Not terrible, but I'm still going to have to export these every week if I start recording everything.

I have to give my vote to Replay Radio. It's really easy to use and it runs on a spare six year old laptop I have at work. It even copies my recordings into iTunes every day when it finishes.

I respect the feature set that Auacity brings to the table but I don't have the time or inclination to edit out the commercials everyday.
