I read the thread yesterday from New York Message Board about O&A leveling off in the ratings. There were some valid points about the differences btween the WNEW show & the new CBS show. I think Anthony (Willie Mays) is one of the most talented guys on radio ever, and I find myself belly laughing at a lot of the old bits from NEW. I really like the new XM show a lot, but think the CBS portion is still finding its identity.

They talked, first thing this morning, about bringing back many old bits and tweaking things.

Are O&A taking the advise of the dentist (Allen Sniffen) and fans who responded to his thread, or is it just coincidental?

The dentist specifically mentioned the 55 gallon drum challenge and Opie said it was coming back today.

Are they really bringing it back, or are they just playing joke on the dentist to make him think they care what he thinks?

Let's hope so, they can finally get back to doing edgy radio that is different from what everyone else is doing. It is a sad day when they have to admit that their using unoriginal hack bits...weigh the fat girl contest. Hopefully Allen wil suggest that they don't waste a half hour finding out what their guests do with their hands while acting.

Maybe Manelli was in for a cleaning, and thought it was a good idea.
A fat girl comes in, Anthony and Norton insult fat people for an hour. It was so hack and unoriginal.

I miss the days when O&A just talked about things like Ron and Fez do, while incorporating their bits into different segments. I love the brutality of Jim Norton and Anthony, I find Opie is OK but he's the mind behind the show so he can afford to be lax in the funny-line delivery, but it gets so fucking repetitive sometimes. There's a news clip and 'OH THE NEWS ARE HYPOCRITICAL SCUM', or Howard says something 'HOWARD SUCKS' for 10 minutes, sometimes even 90 minutes (I agree wtih both of these ideas but talking about it for over an hour more than 10 times gets annoying), and any bit of criticism they respond to for over an hour bitching and complaining when there's so much show they can do. It's intriguing to hear a rant as long as the rant doesn't happen every 8 or so shows. It just fucks up the flow of the damn show for me. The material is just not as fresh. Fatty Pig Fatty could have been better if they had actually slammed the women competing, but it got maybe 3 contestants, fizzled out, and had a radio-cancerous tumor of a human win the game, providing underwhelming, boring results. It had me laughing my ass off at first. A shame.

So here's hoping they do take the Sniffster up on some of his advice. Not too much of his advice though, since I doubt Sniffen knows as much about what they need to do as O&A do.
