OK, maybe only me and newly-minted economics expert Frankenberry - OK probably only me - will care about this but one of the most influential economists of the last 50 years has drawn his last supply and demand curve - Milton Friedman has passed on at 94.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15750712/

Friedman was famous for being a firm believer in free markets, limited government, monetary policy as the tool for regulating the economy and for saying "There is no free lunch." (I guess he never met Wicky.) He was probably as influential as Goldwater with the Conservative movement back when it really was conservative.

I didn't agree with some of his ideas but he was a great thinker and by all accounts a good guy.

Godspeed.

Wow, I missed this thread. I thought I was the only one who cared about this. He is one of the people I cut my teeth on politically. Nobel prize winner, inspired the Goldwater/Reagan free market liberatrians who once upon a time ran the Republican party. Brilliant guy, will be missed.

Though unfortunately, not by many in this White House.
