Two outspoken critics of Putin's governmet have been killed recently.

First, Russian journalist Anna Politkovskaya was shot to death in an elevator of her apartment building.

Now, the former spy who was poisoned last week while investigating her death, has died.

And oh how KGBish.

Radiation found where ex-spy ate, UK officials say

Polonium-210 -- the radioactive substance used to poison a former Russian spy in London -- is one of the world's rarest elements, first discovered in the 19th century by scientists Marie and Pierre Curie.

So, any of you who want to criticize the Kremlin?
I was a Soviet Studies major in college (1985-1989). All I have to say is,

WELL, DUH!!!!

They were never a real threat to us considering their backasswards technology.

But given Russian people as a whole, very vindictive, devious people.

I'm related to a lot of them. Awful, sneaky people.

There's a group of Russians on vacation here. Worst kind of people imaginable. They're these big corn-fed barrel-chested guys with crew cuts - military - with no concept of other people. Spent the whole night yelling and dancing in front of the movie screen one of the bars set up for people to watch Saudi satellite on. There's about 30 pissed off people who weren't going to say shit because you could tell these guys are the kind of guys who would run somebody over in their SUV just for fun. Which is why I'm sure they're Russian military - where they come from, they ARE the law.

Russia. There's your social Darwinism for you.

The NY Post had an excellent article yesterday that was reprinted from the London Sunday Times about the whole story. It was fasinating, truly the stuff of great spy stories. I could not find it online, but here is a similar article with all those involved.

Kremlin gave order to kill dissident and former spy, claims top defector

Has anyone been following this story? It's crazy shit! I was watching a documentary a few weeks ago on the reporter that was killed in Russia. Her family and lawyers opened up an appeal showing that the person they say killed her couldn't have done it (with eyewitnesses), and the Russian courts/government basically ignored them. Now, they've found traces of radiation all over London, on planes, and a former Russian PM is showing signs of poisioning.

HOME...
...4 DAYS AFTER 'DATELINE' INTERVIEW

WASHINGTON (AP) - An expert on Russian intelligence was critically injured in a shooting in front of his suburban Washington home, authorities said.

The shooting of Paul Joyal, 53, came days after he accused the Russian government of involvement in the poisoning of former KGB agent Alexander Litvinenko. The FBI was assisting in the investigation.

Joyal was shot Thursday by two men in his driveway, police said.
The shooting appeared to be a random robbery and street shooting, a law enforcement official with knowledge of the case told The Associated Press. The official spoke on the condition of anonymity because the person did not have authority to comment on the case. In an interview broadcast last Sunday on "Dateline NBC," Joyal also accused the Russian government of trying to silence its critics.
"A message has been communicated to anyone who wants to speak out against the Kremlin: If you do, no matter who you are, where you are, we will find you, and we will silence you _ in the most horrible way possible," Joyal said.

Some things never change.

Russian activist found murdered (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/8152351.stm)
A prominent Russian human rights activist, Natalia Estemirova, has been found dead in the North Caucasus.
She was bundled into a van and abducted as she left her home in Chechnya on Wednesday morning, a colleague said. Her body was found in Ingushetia.
Ms Estemirova, who was 50 according to Russian prosecutors, had worked in the past with the activists Anna Politkovskaya (http://www.newyorker.com/online/blogs/newsdesk/2009/07/david-remnick-natalia-estemirova.html), who was shot dead in 2006, and Stanislav Markelov, who was killed in January this year.
Yikes. Any other friends in that circle? You can run...

How is it any different than what is going on here now that Obama is around?
http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/entertainment_tv_tvblog/2008/10/obama-campaign.html
Go against Obama and you go against the state. All critics are being blacklisted and access restricted just like any non open society would do.
The whole new world order is up to the same thing, Savage banned from the UK shows the global reach of the censorship being put on everyday citizens across the western globe.
