I want to know why... why oh great oracle... do banks charge when you have a "low ballance"? I haven't had 100 to my name in almost a year... every check I get goes out to some creditor who's been calling me 3 times a day... and now that my commerce account just had it's first birthday they charge me every time my account goes below 100 dollars.

Why do we accept this?

Are there any banks that don't have hidden fees? I was so sure commerce was it, but they pull the same old shit. I asked the teller how I was supposed to know that I was going to be charged 15 bucks every time my account dips below 100 bucks and she said "everyone is told when they open the account." How the fuck am I supposed to remember that shit?

Who even plans on being that low? Why kick me when I'm down? AAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGG!

on a side note, anyone have a bank in North Jersey that doesn't have any hidden charges?

I don't want to be an annoying know-it-all but I opened an account with them over 5 years ago and I remember them telling me that.

When I opened my last checking account I went to the bank that offered "Free Checking" and made sure what I was signing wasn't some lame contract that let fees kick in down the road. I usually have something in there, but believe me bro, I was JUST at the point with creditors you describe.

Take your money elsewhere.

heres what you do byob, if you have to have the account make sure you always have $125 in it . pay your bills by money order, you can get them from the post office for under a buck. keeps you from having per check charges and what not. been doing it for years, i never write a check, and it's saved me lots of money.

I had Wachovia in Jersey (still do but have to switch because there aren't a lot of them in Long Island), and they have free checking with no balance limits. Believe me, my account goes way low on a regular basis. I think you have to have direct deposit to the account to qualify for the fully free checking.

I've had Lakeland, closed an account and re-opened another one a couple years ago when I started working again. Always had Free Checking with no "Low Balance" fees.

Check into them if you're in the NJ area. If not, good luck bro.

I'm sure they said something, but I had to open an account because I got a loan through commerce. They took a half a point off the APR if I had an account there.

I'm really thinking hard to that discussion and I don't remember much chat at all about the account. It was mostly the loan that I took out and then he handed me a check book.

I really don't think that I'll have a problem keeping more than 100 in there once either A. The job I'm doing starts paying me. or B. I get another job, but it's just frustrating that when you're down, everyone has their own little way to pile on. And then after you kick everyone off they leave their stink all over you in the form of "marks on your credit report."

I just don't think it's fair to have a penalty for being poor.

I would try Bank of America, but I can't remember where there even is one. I'm going to have to open a new business account soon too. I am going to have to do some serious research before I do that... but hopefully THAT account won't be dealing with low ballances (:

I think I'm going to start making a list of how every business kicks you when you're down. It's more the morality of business vs the morality of human beings that bothers me. I always like to think they are very different but serve each other in harmony. Now I'm learning how they truely are different, but SUCK!
