What is guessing the next topic all about?

I have a neighbor whose teen son is into some kind of noise called guessing the next topic. I hear him thinking aloud in his car, and the so called guessing cracks me up. Is it a gay thing? I never see him hanging with chicks? Can someone please tell me what's the story with this awful noise?
